I understand that it is "first come first served" on the list. What if one person has only one day, like Dec 18 but full so he just joined the wait... and other one from last week already waited for Dec 18-23.

If only Dec 18 becomes available, which one gets it first? Would DVC "hold and hide" that availability hoping to match the Dec 18-23 wait. Or they would simply give it to the late comer for that one-day need?

It does not seem to be very fair if the late comer gets the date... but I just want to double check with you guys, thanks.

They go down the list in order until someone's wait list can be filled in its entirety. They do not set nights aside hoping that the rest of someone's WL comes through.

Let's say you are top of the list and want Dec 18-23. Dec 18 and 19 were just freed up due to a cancellation. Your list cannot be completely filled so they keep going through the list. They find someone (maybe the last person on the list) who just needs Dec 18 and/or Dec 19 so that person's list is filled.

We don't really know why they do things this way. Perhaps it's just because it keeps the wait list process as simple as possible. Maybe it's because DVC sold enough points to book nearly every room, every night of the year so they have to manage room inventory such that as many rooms are filled for as many nights of the year as possible. If they held back Dec 18 and 19 hoping the rest of your nights will eventually come through, that might not happen and then they would have empty rooms that could have been booked for those nights.

Thanks for the detailed explanations.

So it's not really first come first served. It's better to have smaller WL, like individual days instead of a long one to maximize your chance.

You can have up to two active wait list requests per Membership per Use Year.

If you were to try and wait list individual days, you could only wait list two of them.

I was wondering the same thing, but from a different standpoint. What happens when MORE days open up? We are waitlisted for 2 days. If 3 days open up, would they fill mine or would they look for someone with all three waitlisted? If their goal is to fill every available room, every single night, then it stands to reason that they would fill the waitlist that matches EXACTLY. I would think that it is more fair to give the available rooms to the highest person on the list, even if there are leftover days.

I think you'd get it because the open rooms matched your waitlist. And then the open night would go back into inventory.
