Wait List / Modifications

Hi!

New DVC owner here and trying to get my arms around wait listing so I would appreciate any insights from the veterans out there.

If I understand correctly if I wait list the points for that reservation are held. Therefore what are the odds of securing the waitlist?

Is it better to waitlist or just keep checking daily for any availability thereby continuing to hold onto your points vs placing them into a holding pattern with no certainty to get the waitlist?

Lastly as for modifications to a reservation, do you have good chances to get into the Poly at 7 months for a March reservation? We own currently at BLT and have a reservation there but given the construction were going to try to move at 7 months. Any thoughts on this I would appreciate.

The points are not held. However, if the points are not available if/when the WL comes through, it won't fill.

Many owners will do both - waitlist the desired reservation and also check frequently for availability (called stalking the reservation) because for reasons we don’t understand sometimes you’ll find what you want on your own, especially for a one-night reservation.

Since you already have the BLT reservation, you can set up the WL to replace that reservation if it fills. If the Poly reservation takes more points than the BLT reservation, you just need to be sure those extra points will be available in that membership, whether current points or to be borrowed (when setting up the WL, you tell the system whether borrowing is ok or not). If the Poly reservation takes fewer points than BLT, the extra points will go back into the BLT contract in the UY of the trip - if that’s the case, be sure to set up the WL to expire at 31 days before checkin, so the extra points don’t go into holding.

Always make a WL, your chances are much better than just stalking alone, but since you can only have 2 WL at a time, if you are interested in multiple resorts, than you need to stalk as well.

As for poly, if you book at opening bell eligibility start date, I think should be able to get in.

Even though it is spring break, it’s not a high demand time of year at 25/28pts standard and 28/32pts lake view.

If you end up needing to waitlist a day or two, I doubt it won’t get filled if waitlisting them right at 7 months.

hijacking with another question...
I am waitlisted Dec 28-Jan 4 ( long shot I know). I can get dec 28/29 booked at the resort I am hoping for - should i book this and hope to add on? Book it and only waitlist the other nights?
I currently have Aulani waitlisted and BWV waitlisted as we are happy doing either...
What is my best strategy on BWV? It does have those 2 nights available right now!

I would book what you can, and shorten the waitlist. You might then want to consider booking something else at WDW,instead of AUL, now that you’d have two of your four nights. Or waitlist something else at WDW. Good luck.
