Trying book a stay at the Grand California and everything is booked. Can someone explain or direct me to an explanation about the wait list? Is it possible to get a confirmation or am I dreaming? is there anyone that has had success with the wait list at GC?

VGC is the smallest DVC resort and it can be very difficult to book a room if you don't book right at 7 months. If you have some flexibility in dates or villa size that will open up more options.

If you are trying to go this summer it may be next to impossible to get a waitlist filled due to the opening of Carsland and all the other improvements being completed at DCA. All you can do is try and waitlists can work.

I would just waitlist and try.

I had booked a stay in coming August at 7 months out but I was 1 night short so I waitlisted for that 1 night and few weeks later I get an email telling me my waitlist came through and the night was automatically added to my reservation.::yes::

So there is always chance because people cancel !

When did you want to go? I just booked Cali the other day for Nov.. exactly 7 mos in advance.. no problems.

Shorter stays are easier to get than longer stays.

I have been able to get it at less than 7 months, but it was a split stay (1 night in a 2 BR and 2 nights in a 1BR. Originally, I couldn't get anything. But I kept checking and peiced together the reservation. This was during Fall Break at about 4 months out. At exactly 7 months out, I have been able to book a 1BR, but the studios are hit and miss. I had to wait for a studio for a four night stay for next Oct (Fall break time again). I have gotten 3 of the nights so far. (I keep checking back and then adjusting the waitlist) I have never had luck getting a waitlist of more than one day, so it pays to keep checking and booking as things become available.

I've read on this board that calling at 60 days out might bring unexpected results. At 60 days it seems that if you find the right CM at MS, he might find you room back from cash or breakage inventory. Trying would not hurt anyone.

Since VGC is soldout and is so popular, I doubt there is much breakage inventory. They don't even have it on the disneyland online reservation system to book for cash.

The problem with waitlisting when no nights are available, all the nights have to become available at once for your waitlist to fill. If one night opens up, it goes to someone who only waitlisted that one night.

I'd use the waitlist.

We always book at the 11 month mark, but you never know what life might throw your way. I think we're going to be cancelling our early Nov reservation as it looks like our DGS won't be able to go with us. I'll know for sure in a couple of weeks.
