Wait list first night or entire stay

Hi everyone,

I am at the seven month window to book my preferred resort. The entire stay is available so far except the first day. Would you recommend waitlisting the whole stay or just the first night and try logging in tomorrow to get the rest of my stay? I am pretty sure the reason it’s not available is because someone is walking the reservation because everyday the previous day becomes available when it was not before.

Thanks!

Personally, I would wait and stalk that first night. You're right - there might be a 'walking' situation going on, and it might come open for you. If it does, grab it and then contact Member Services to merge the 2 reservations into 1 (which they'll do if the room type/location are the same on both). If the one night doesn't open for you, then you have to decide on a Plan B, which might be one night at a different DVC resort that night - then I would book that, set up a waitlist for the 1 night and the room I actually want, and hope for the best - but still stalking it frequently! Not sure if that helps you or not..... Good luck completing the reservation. Since the reservation is late January, I would still have hope for you (depending on the resort and room type).

We've been in this situation before. I book the stay and then waitlist/stalk that one night. I find it's more likely to get one night than multiples. Worst case scenario, you stay somewhere else for that one night and then have 90% of your stay at your desired spot. We hate switching resorts, but we have done this when it was close by and not *too* much of a pain. For example, we could only get six nights in a Polynesian bungalow -- all except the first night. We stayed in a 2BR VGF for the first night and then moved next door to the Poly for the remainder of our stay (as our waitlist never came through for the one night). It was a close by so it felt tolerable for us. However, we have had success with this as well in stitching together a week. It all depends on your tolerance for whatever is your worst-case scenario (if no waitlists come through).

I agree. You are much more likely to get one night than a longer stay. Book what’s available now and waitlist the rest.

Thanks everyone. I guess the issue is I can’t book the rest of the stay yet because it’s out of the 7 month window without waitlisting the first day (the rest of the days are available). I guess I'll see what happens tomorrow!

Hope the 'walker' isn't a day ahead of you, as it will torment you for a few days with the reservation possibly a day out of your reach - been there, done that before. Good luck.....

Oh, sorry, I see what you mean now. Okay -- fingers crossed!!!

What you can do is pick up the nights as they are dropped and not worry about waitlisting until all your dates have passed and waitlist the ones you can't get.

This is exactly what I’m hoping to do. I’ve been trying to snag a 2bd BCV at the end of January, but it’s impossible to get in at 7am. I have seen individual nights appear back briefly one day at a time though as walks move past. *fingers crossed* for tomorrow.

The thing is that you are trying s 7 month booking which means any owner can come in and prevent even a walker from moving forward.

But, what you also may be seeing is BCV owners who did book home resort maybe moving elsewhere which is why they come and go. Good luck!!
