Wait List at Grand Californian

We are trying to book on points at the Grand Californian for June 14-19, 2013. This morning I was able to book the first two nights in a one bedroom. Now I'm waiting till Friday to waitlist the other 3 nights. My question is this....how likely is the waitlist to come through? I can book a regular room at DGC with points for about the same amount as the last 3 one bedroom nights. Should I just go ahead and book regular room or give the waitlist some time first? This will be a stop in California on our way home from Aulani and really need to buy some plane tickets. What are your thoughts?

Can you book the regular room and waitlist the villa or no? I'm really not sure how it works with booking a regular room on points. I have had good luck with waitlists coming through at WDW, but I have no idea with the Grand Californian. Good Luck!

Give the waitlist time. Unless something is really changing you should have no problem booking the hotel room later if you don't get VGC. I've used points for hotel rooms at DL 3 times I believe and never booked them more than 3 weeks in advance of the stay.

Once you book into the Disney collection those points become reservation points and cannot be used for DVC stays so you don't want to book the room and keep the waitlist going after that.

I would give it some time. We went in August and about 3 months out I gave up and booked the rooms I needed for the wailtist dates at DLH.

I'd give the waitlist some time too.

I've waitlisted a studio twice, April/May and September, and both times it came through. The April/May one came though about 6 1/2 months before our travel date and the September one about a month before.

Are you thinking of booking a cash reservation as a backup just so you have something in place and you can go ahead and make your plane reservations? With so many moving parts to your vacation, I think I would go ahead and do that. You can always cancel the cash reservation if the WL does not come through. Or, if at some point you decide to abandon the WL and get a room on points, you would still have your cash reservation if for some reason you couldn't get the room on points.

Thanks all for the feedback. I think I will give the wait list a few months then book a regular room with points if I need to. I just wasn't sure what availability for DL was since we always do WDW. Good idea to book cash room just to be on the safe side. It looks like I can cancel that 5 days out or more.

I just added on an extra day my Junerip and am waitlisted. I was a little surprised there was already a wait list (June 5th) given many schools aren't out yet, but it looks like all of June is in demand. Hoping my waitlist comes through too!

We are wait listed for a studio for two nights in June. Fingers crossed. We are staying off property for five nights, but I will cancel two of them if the waitlust cones through!
