DIS Family I need your help! We bought BLT after we got married 10 years ago when we were young and broke..... well we remained broke for quite a while, but after all these years we're finally using the points again and hitting WDW for our 10 year anniversary!

We have 300 points total for June 2020 use year, we want to do 6 nights in a one bedroom villa with savanna view at Jambo and then a studio lake view at Polynesian for 5 nights or so. These are the slow weeks of December and they're open right now.

Question is, do I try and sell my points, then buy points for those resorts to book now or do you think it'll be open at the 7 month window in May? It is very stressful playing the waiting game!

I appreciate all of your input.

December isn’t slow in terms of DVC availability. (Tons of members love the low points, pleasant weather and Christmas decorations)
You can check past availability trends here:

They're currently available, I'm just wondering should I sit and wait hoping they'll still be available? Or do something like sell my BLT points, then but AKV and Poly points? I've never booked at 7 months.

They won't be available by 7 months. If anything is there at 7 months they will be gone at 8:01.

Remember, availability doesn't show how many units are available. Could be one, even now.

If that is what you really want, then you might want to try to rent a reservation for each from an owner, and then turn around and put your points for rent. I would secure the rental first.

It will end up costing you a little bit to do it this way..you’ll probably pay more for a rental than what you would receive as an owner, especially if you use a broker.

I would say, though, you may want to at least get a reservation at BLT while you decide so you have something.

if you decide to rent out your points, you can cancel it once you have what you want,

Thank you! I dont event know what cancelation policies are for points! It really has been awhile.

The one bedrooms have a decent chance to be there (AKL). The studios on the other hand has less chance to be there at 7 months. I would book your points at BLT so you have a reservation (maybe make 2 ressie one for a 1BR ,one for the studio). Then at 7 months you can switch.

Book a dummy reservation that is at least 2 months out. Then cancel it. There is no penalty. Note if you book less then 2 months out, and cancel the points will go into holding which you do not want. Also do not book something that expands your UY.

Thank you! Any insight on the UY issue? Not sure I'm tracking.

This is not accurate. You can cancel or change any reservation 31 days or more before your check in date, and all points are returned to your account in the same status as they were as part of the reservation. There is no penalty

When you cancel or change 30 days or less from check in, those points go into holding, expire at the end of the UY the trip is in, and can only be used to book trips with a check in date of 60 days or less,

I think what was meant is that booking a trip that starts in one UY and ends in the next UY is difficult as you can’t do this online. You have to call MS to book it,

Plus, traveling at the end of a UY is very risky. If you had to cancel or needed to change the trip, those points would be lost as there is no time to rebook.

Only penalty is canceling a reservation or changing it to less points less than 31 days until check in, Then you up with holding points..explained above,

iF you borrow points, that is a final transaction and if you cancel the trip, those need to be used by the end of the UY they were borrowed into.

Sorry I gave you the wrong information on 2 months out on cancelling as others said it is 31 days without a penalty.

The UY statement is pertaining to booking a dummy reservation that needs to borrow points from your next UY and then cancelling the dummy. By doing something like this the borrowed points will become part of this years UY points and you won't be able to bank them. In other words if you want to make a dummy reservation to cancel for experience, do not borrow points
to do so (which you probably wouldn't do anyway).
