While we were trying to iron some stuff out for our wedding, the fiance and I talked a bit about our DL trip as well, and now we're leaning back towards DLH over the GC. We still have yet to make our final decision (not going until the 9th of September '07), but I think I may have it figured out as far as the differences between each hotel. If anyone can add anything to this then by all means, please do. It might help the decision making process :teeth:

-GC over DLH:
1) Newer
2) Larger rooms (or am I wrong on this?)
3) Not as many families with little kids around
4) Direct access to DCA
5) Views of DCA if we pay extra for a park view room, and
6) Appears to be a more relaxing and adult oriented atmosphere. I'll be 27 and she'll be 21 when we go.

-DLH over GC
1) More "traditional Disney", somewhat of a more oldschool Disney experience
2) Used to staying at DLH so I know my way around the property
3) Not nearly as spendy per night as GC (won't be spending much time in our room anyway)
4) Views of DL or DTD if we pay extra for it, and
5) In reference to #1, I like all the old Disneyana spread around the hotel. Both of us love the history behinf DL.

Definately a hard decision to make. We're staying for 10 nights, so we've also toyed with the idea of staying in one the first 5 nights, and the other for the second half, but that's kind of a pain to switch hotels so probably not feasable. I have GOT to go out and pick up the 2006 guides...

-GC over DLH:
1) Newer
2) Larger rooms (or am I wrong on this?) No, the rooms are not larger, unless you get a suite
3) Not as many families with little kids around I'm not sure that is true. Many families do stay there. They even had bunkbeds in some rooms and story time near the fireplace in the evening.
4) Direct access to DCA
5) Views of DCA if we pay extra for a park view room, and
6) Appears to be a more relaxing and adult oriented atmosphere. I'll be 27 and she'll be 21 when we go. The Disneyland hotel offers adult options as well- Granvilles, The Lost Bar, and the Wine Cellar all come to mind.

Here are a couple files you might enjoy. They are from the group sales dept. They offer info on layouts, different pictures then you might see elsewhere, etc.

"3) Not as many families with little kids around"

ummmmmm....... you're going to Disneyland. :confused3
From what we've seen - there are plenty of small children at all 3 of the resort hotels.
There is a different atmosphere at the GC, and it is more expensive. I think the real difference is just the location and the amenities - of which DLH also has plenty.

Wow, stop waffling now!!
GC is the place to go. We love DLH, but the main reason we choose DLH is because we are always traveling with kids. DH and I have always thought that GC was the place to be if we didn't bring the kids. It is such a beautiful property, much more romantic than the DLH. If you are feeling withdrawals from DLH, then take a stroll through the grounds during your stay. I can't even imagine that you two will regret your decision.
Have Fun!!

We stayed at the GCH last Oct and loved every second of it. It was alot of hard work convincing dh to spend the extra money, but even he thought it was worth it. The hotel is beaituful, but unlike the other DLR properties, GCH has activities offerred specifically to its guests only. There was a brisk walk through DCA before the park opened, storytelling by the hearth, scavenger hunts and many more. Housekeeping twice a day, once in the morning and then in the evening for turn down service is what my mom loved the most. Everyone gets turn down service (not just concierge). We're going back in Aug with the inlaws cause they heard us bragging so much about how much fun we had at GCH. We're also going back in March as well and have booked DLH. This will be my first time to stay at the DLH. Dh stayed there almost 20 years ago. Although we love the GCH, I've also always wanted to stay at DLH. Since we have kids as well, the neverland pool was a big deciding factor. Either way we both hotels, I don't think you can go wrong.

For the two of you, I'd book GC. We stayed at DLH in December and loved it, but the GC just seems more romantic.
Have a great trip! :sunny:

From your lists I'd say the biggest selling point for GC is the location.

However, since DL opens earlier and stays open later than DCA - it was not as big of a deal as we thought it would be when we stayed there.
Still had to walk halfway through DTD if we went early or stayed late. That can actually be alot of fun too - but with the monorail available for DLH it does kind of negate the distance thing in my mind.
It was nice when we wanted to take a mid-day break though.

I'd think the biggest point in favor of DLH would be the price.

Since you're staying for 10 days I bet it's quite a difference!

Other stuff:
GC is newer, but they are always renovating at DLH and I have never found it to feel old or worn.
Most rooms at DLH are larger than a standard room at GC.
Lots of families with little ones at both hotels.
As far as the atmosphere - for the most part I think you're really talking about the common areas of both hotels. You can enjoy those no matter which one you stay at.

I'm afraid the money thing would win out for me.

Good Luck deciding!

The DLH is the Disneyland Hotel and it certainly has a bit of magic that the other DL properties do not.
However, I would choose GC in a heartbeat and here's why:
It's a beautiful hotel.
It's a big hotel and even tho there are children there it doesn't feel like there are a lot of little ones running around.
September is a quiet time at DL and you'll have more adult company at GC that time of year.
You'll feel more pampered there and after all it is your honeymoon right?

I'm wondering what you'll do for 10 days at DL. Are you planning to see other California sites or are you staying in Anaheim the whole time.
Ten days is a but much and would cost a fortune even w/September rates.
