I just listened to an old show and they were talking about a dish served with Fried Chicken and Waffles and someone said that it is not an Authentic southern Dish. How many people Disagree??? Im not from the south but have a few friends who are and they say this is a very common meal. We have here in phoenix a "soul Food' restaurant called LoLos Chicken and Waffles, and in LA there is a very family owned restaurant called Roscoes chicken and waffles. Lots of Celebritys go there, it was even featured in Pulp Fiction i beleive. How many of you have heard of this dish?

Everybody in the world has heard of it....except me.

Gladys Knight apparently sings about it.

No one doubts the veracity or the origin of Chicken and Waffles.

I have very few regrets in life but one of them is ever mentioning the phrase "chicken and waffles".

I get it. Everyone loves chcken and waffles.

Woohoo.

You're wrong Kevin. I do not love chicken and waffles.

i love pie and cake!! ohhh way to hijack early on.:surfweb: sorry I'm a little bored and hyped up on caffiene right now.

There's a chicken & waffles restaurant just down the street from where I live. The place is pretty popular too. Although if I do ever decide to eat there, it'll be either just waffles or just chicken. I don't think I could ever mix the two lol

Ohh, now, now Kevin...

Can you believe that today, I was wrapping my children's birthday presents with Food Network on and Throwdown with Bobby Flay was on. Not my favorite show but I'll watch in a pinch :) What was the challenge...CHICKEN and WAFFLES!

I swear, all I could think of was, 'hmmm I wonder if the folks on the DIS have seen this...'

I don't think I've ever visited this particular board...and apparently the Waffles and Fried Chicken thing is some kind of "inside joke"...but the title caught my eye.

I hadn't heard of the combination 'til I saw it on some Food Network show and I thought it was weird...until I tried it...OMG!!

Good stuff! :thumbsup2

Kevin dont worry, i have never actually tried it myself. I just felt the need to put it out there that it is a popular combination. I was listening to an old show and no one seemed to beleive that it was a real dish. Pete even mentioned that it was some New Chef trying to be creative. i just wanted to put it out there that it is a real dish. I think its the whole Salty & Sweet combination that people like. I personally love to dip my bacon and sausage in maple syrups, same type of thing im assuming.

Ms. Knight has one of her Chicken & Waffle restaurants in Lithonia, GA (just call it near Atlanta). The place is always packed.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I can see you in my head saying this.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

How exactly does one eat this dish? Is the chicken inside of, or on top of the waffle?

How strange...

I just listened to that old show last night as well. I immediately thought of Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles out in L.A., and how the place is packed day and night...

I thought to email you Kev, but as it was an old show I figured you'd heard enough about it.

But wait, it gets stranger... Today I turn on The Food Network and Bobby Flay's show, "Throw down" is on. What's the topic ? You guessed it - chicken and waffles. Apparently there is a place in Harlem famous for them as well....

And to top off my day, I come back here tonight and see that I was not alone in listening to that podcast last night...

Oy. It's like it's all tied together in some cosmic chicken and waffle parallel universe.... Pass the syrup.

I need to lie down.:headache:

Sorry for bringing up a sore subject Kevin. Im pretty new to posting on the boards, i was always one of those Lurkers people talk about. Im guessing that this has come up MANY times before and its been beaten to death. And to the person that asked how you eat it, its served seperately usually. you dont have to mix them. Although im sure some people do like to take a bite of each. I wiki'd it and found this... A commonly quoted story is that the Wells Supper Club started selling the chicken and waffles dish to late-night patrons of their club in 1938 "as it was too late for dinner, and too early for breakfast"; so Wells Supper Club served both dishes on the one plate.

Ok...before I make anyone feel bad....

I'm being melodramatic.

I reviewed Boatwright's and said I'd never herad of Chicken and Waffles.

None of the folks I was with or the Podcast folks had either.

Well...apparently, we all live under a rock.

People called, emailed, posted on the boards, private messaged......

Chicken and Waffles is apparently a well loved dish and we have missed the boat.

Every few weeks, someone finds that episode and posts "I cant believe you never heard of chcicken and waffles" and the entire things starts again.

I was being overly fatootzed for the benefit of the folks that post regularly and have been through the C&W fiasco.

I apologize if my late night humor didnt translate well. I was posting in jest and it didnt really work.

Welcome to the boards.

Whoa Whoa Whoa... did Kevin just say he has never heard of chicken and waffles???? Its a huge thing in the south, I think they even have a restaurant in California....... :lmao: :rotfl2:
Just kidding, im trying to antagonize. Love ya Kev!!!!

dang. i totally fell into the "you have never heard of Chicken and Waffles" trap. I feel like a Scmuck now ! I thought i was all cool , and here i am the Umpteenth person to post that ! I know you were just joking Kevin, no worries. Im sure there are lots of Local food specialties that i have never heard of either. Im 32 and have still never tried a White Castle hamburger, we dont have them on the West coast. I found out about Turducken about 2 years ago.... I just hope i dont bring up another subject that has been beat to death 100 times ! This never would have happened if poor Pete was feeling better ! i have been listening to past shows to get over my Podcast withdrawls....

It's soul food...just like collards. Nothing wrong with that. It may have southern roots, but definitely falls under the soul food category. ;)

OHHHHH it's soul food???? :rotfl: :rotfl: once again trying to antagonize

Chicken & Waffles has always scared me.

I always wondered why they were together. This subject being brought up again has taught me something. See? DIS is educational for more than just Disney related topics!
