W.I.S.H.-Wide Monday Mixer!

Here we go, of course I couldn't quite narrow it down to just one race...but I did at least narrow it down to one race of each of several distances. :confused3

For the marathon distance I would say the Marine Corps Marathon edges out Boston for me due to its place in the nation's capital and my personal history with the Corps.

For the half-Ironman distance I would say the Ironman 70.3 Geelong. It's on the beautiful southern coast of Australia, and just a couple hours from my brother who lives so very far away from me.....:sad1:

For the Ironman distance I would obviously have to pick Kona, Hawaii. It's just the ultimate race in the ultimate place!!!

It's time for another Mixer question to get the party rolling! This one was suggested by Maura and has really got me thinking and dreaming:

"If you could do one race--money, qualifying, logistics is no object--what would it be?"

I would narrow it to 3 Marathons -

1.) Boston, of course. The Daytona 500, Super Bowl & World Series of marathons rolled into 1.

2.) Chicago - The availability of free lodging.

3.) The MCM - What better place to run than our Nation's Capital? Plus, once again, the free lodging thing.................. :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

If I were a superfit studmuffin, I'd throw Kona in there as well, but I'll hope for the Florida 70.3 next year....................

Here is where I show my total lack of knowledge and experience -- but I'm going to assume there is a half marathon race in St. Petersburg, Russia, and I would like to run it (I'm also assuming it's in the summer, so I won't freeze my little babushka off!) I just think it would be amazing to run among all that amazing architecture...

I have an entire collection in the state of California:

1) Big Sur Half Marathon, Monterey, CA
2) Surf City, Huntington Beach, CA
3) Napa to Sonoma Wine Country, Napa, CA
4) Nike Women's Marathon, San Francisco

Don't know why, other than my sister is in SF and I haven't been out there in a while, and I love the countryside. And running in the wine country? What could be better than that?

Good Question and easy answer. DH and I would love to do the Amazing Race. We are diehard fans and every season we "know" that we would win :rotfl: Maybe someday we'll apply.

YES! That's exactly what I would say as well.

I'd also love to do a 3-Day someday. I'm not sure I could walk that far, though!

I also dream of the Dublin Marathon and the Honolulu Marathon. Both the locations and the distances are still just dreams for me.

Those are the ones. I'd also like to do Mt. Desert Island in ME. Or anything in Australia...or Costa Rica...or lots of races.

I will dream big!

#1 - To one day run the full marathon at WDW!

#2 - To do the Amazing Race with DH. We talk about this all the time and think we would make a great team!

It is really fun to read everyone's answers...thanks for the great question!

So I am going to consider my realistic physical capabilities as "logistics" and say THE Ironman in Kona. Another sporting event I would love to participate in is the Labatt Blue Adult Pond Hockey Championship in WI. DH and I have dreams of doing that one when our kids are older and their hockey schedules don't consume our lives (and $$)!

I'd love to do Antarctica, Easter Island or The Great Wall marathon. Aside from the logistics and money - this is all assuming that I will have completed a full at some point. :rotfl:

I'd like to do the Dempsey Challenge in Lewiston, Maine. I was born and raised in Lewiston (Patrick Dempsey was a few years ahead of me and went to a different highschool). I've seen pictures from friends who did it and got pictures with Patrick. I just think it would be cool to participate. It's definitely an easy "dream" for me to make happen. We'll have to see what next year holds. :thumbsup2

Bourbon Chase, Bourbon Chase! :thumbsup2

I think it would challenge me in ways I never even imagined! Oh, and did I mention the bourbon?

A little more seriously...Stockholm Marathon. I just think it would be really cool to end a race inside an Olympic Stadium.

Plus the other suspects:
Dublin (can you tell 'Ohana has talked about this?), Honolulu, Boston, London, Berlin, The Great Wall....

Hmmm....methinks maybe I want to travel more than I want to race. :rotfl2:

You're not the only one :rolleyes1 Though I'm starting to think that a race + vacation doesn't leave much time for the vacation part.

Vicky: You're right.....that's how my family 'vacations' and I am always doing a race! Gives us a good reason to go, though.

Jeez! You guys are going to need a designated driver. ;) Maybe, I'll find time for this one after all....

I don't quite think of it as a race, but The Amazing Race would be pretty cool! DH and I love the show and often talk about if we were to try.

The Disney full was my dream race (actually completing any full marathon at all was like a dream). My dream now is for Goofy with better weather than this year. Not quite sure where else I want to go...

My dream now is for Goofy with better weather than this year.

I cannot tell you how much I am hoping your dream comes true! I need a Disney race with better weather -- it's that memory that gets me through training the following year, and this year I just remember being really, really cold and snowed on --which I can get at home! Did I mention it's been snowing all day...:cold:

Let's all send faith, trust and pixiedust: to make JenB's dream a reality in 2011!

Bring on the dream-races! :thumbsup2

I'd choose one of the marathons on Antarctica. Doesn't matter which one. I just want to be able to say I did it and have people look at me like I'm nuts. :)

Happy Monday!!

Here's Today's Starter Topic:

"Crosstraining I Have Done."
