I have some questions regarding the 5th (top) floor rooms at VWL.

I read on the resorts board that the 5th floor is not a complete floor...in other words, there are not as many rooms as the other floors.

I also read that the rooms on the 5th floor have vaulted ceilings. Is this true?

One drawback to the 5th floor rooms is that the balconies are partially enclosed...in other words, you have to stand up in order to see anything. Apparently the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor balconies are more like porch railings...allowing you to be seated and still enjoy a view.

Does anyone know if there are 4th floor rooms with vaulted ceilings? If the 5th floor does not extend the entire length of the resort, then there may be 4th floor rooms which are technically "top floor", and would possibly have vaulted ceilings. Does anyone know?

I don't know if this will be of help or not, but while my stay in May, the Manager was gretting people in the loby of WLV. She was very nice, (had an accent in her speech). We asked her if there were units on the 5th floor and she said yes, but not the entire floor. She explained that there are also offices for staff and storage facilities up there too.

I can't help you with the 4th floor vaulted ceiling question, but on the 5th floor in December we DID have a vaulted ceiling.

With recent Disney cutbacks though, they may have changed that to save heat.

I do know that if you turn right off the elevators on the 5th floor there were not guest rooms, whereas I believe there were on other floors (we snooped around) :)

hmmm this is interesting!! I want to snoop lol. -Cris

Heat ? In Florida ?

Good point. It's been chilly here in Ohio and I guess I've got heat on my mind! :)

In 3 and a 1/2 days we'll be at WDW and I'll know what heat is, huh??

We just got back from a stay at WLV.. The whole 5th floor seemed to be 2 bedroom dedicated bedrooms. I noticed there was only 1 door (not 2) in each little alcove....
My mom is handicapped and so we asked to be close to the elevator. Well at both the BWV and the WLV they put us as far from the elevator as was possible. I called to complain about how far away we were and they said they could change us the next day for a $40 room change fee !! I did not ask for any other request except for non smoking and was very disappointed....

We were in the last room on the 5th floor at WLV. Our room had vaulted ceilings. The master bedroom didn't have a balcony but the living room and 2nd bedroom had one long balcony. From the balcony you could see alittle more roof from the 4th floor. It did not seem to go over much further from what we could see. Maybe another 3 rooms on each side... The rooms were very nice with 2 real beds in the 2nd bedroom, though no fridge or microwave but it had a huge walkin closet were the door to out to the hallway would have been. Right off the elevator was a room right in the middle of the hallway.. Storage maybe?? Everything else looked like 2 beedrooms...

We stayed in a one bedroom at VWL last August. The only "vaulted" ceiling that I noted was that the roof line intruded into the LR such that the end table next to the sofa and one chair were under the roof intrusions and I banged my head a couple of times using the phone and getting up from the chair. :) Also, as noted above the porches are enclosed so that you cannot see anything without standing. IMHO, I will go for the lower floors next time despite the vaulted ceiling. :D

Lat year in May we stayed in a vaulted ceiling dedicated studio on the 5th floor. The ceiling was quite low on the balcony side. Could have quite bumped my head if not careful. The balcony was quite obstructed, too.

did you tell them specifically that it was for medical reasons?

Supposedly requests based upon medical reasons get priority over everyone else no matter what. A CM told me that once, so we make sure to note that when appropriate, and have never had a problem. (but maybe we've just been lucky...)

Yes I did tell them she was handicapped which is why we needed to be close to the elevator. When I checked in I also reminded them of her being handicapped but of course they never give you the number ahead of time...

We stayed in a 5th floor studio last Sept/Oct 2001. It was only a few doors down from the elevator. We actually liked the vaulted ceilings and the closed balcony. Our request was for a non-smoking upper floor room.
