Okay folks...so I need thoughts on where to stay for the honeymoon?

Should I stay in a studio at the VWL or a Garden Wing Room at the Contemporary?

Thoughts? Suggestions? Price is the same....so tell me which way to go.

Cheers,
Josh

For a honeymoon I would recommend VWL. It has a secluded feel, and there are a lot of places for walking either around the resort, or through the woods to Fort Wilderness. The theming is much more spectacular at VWL/WL (the Contemporary is like many other hotels outside WDW, but VWL/WL is not something one would see outside of the Pacific Northwest and National Parks)

Plus having the additional items a studio offers will allow you to enjoy some time in your studio without having to go out and meet the rest of the guests in the resort... ;)

Absolutely the VWL/WL if you’re looking for a romantic feel to your accommodations.

The Contemporary is nice, but not someplace I would consider to be romantic. There are several properties at WDW that would be great for a honeymoon, but the Contemporary isn’t really one of them.

I'm leaning toward the VWL....it looks so peaceful. How is the room size? Will it feel open or small?

Anyone else have thoughts?

Convince me one way or the other.

Cheers,
Josh

Well, let's see....

'Honey, for our honeymoon I have something really special for you - a ride on the monorail'

OR

'Honey, for our honeymoon I have something really special for you - a secluded villa in the woods, surrounded by walking trails, a geyser, a lake, and various animals'

Which one do YOU think will earn you more brownie points? ;)

There are a FEW studios at VWL with no balcony, but most have a balcony with a woods view. A few look towards the water. The rooms are decorated in a Pacific Northwest style theme.

The rooms at the Contemporary are much more cookie cutter three star hotel feel in terms of decor - nice, but not that different from your local Starwood or Hilton.

I spend about 300 nights a year in hotel rooms, and I personally would choose the VWL (but I also own there, so I am a little biased...) Nothing can beat the wow factor of the lobby at the WL, however, complete with a spring bubbling up in the lobby, cascading outside into a waterfall, and eventually becoming the themed pool....

The Contemporary rooms just make me feel like I am on a regular work trip. Not even a ride on the monorail is exciting enough to convince me otherwise...

The studio will feel bigger, because it has one queen bed and a sofabed. Having the sofabed folded up gives you a lot more floor space. Having the kitchenette is very convenient, and you have a larger refrigerator than you would at CR, in case you like to keep a lot of drinks chilling. Plus, you should have a balcony on your room, which you wouldn't have in a wing room at CR (there is one studio without a balcony, on the 4th floor I think - someone here can probably give you the exact room number). Personally, I would request a studio close to the elevators or close to WL, as there are also a few at the far end of the hall that overlook a service area (not what you want on a honeymoon).

I like both resorts, in fact, I just had a villa stay in September and I'll have a wing CR stay in December. But for a honeymoon, I think the villas win hands down.

VWL hands down. The contemporary feels so cold to me. The atmosphere at WL is all encomposing. It never seems to feel crowded. And taking the boat home from MK is so relaxing at night.

While the atmosphere of the CR is nice, it wouldn't feel right for a honeymoon. I vote for VWL! :)

Just got back from a trip that included a night at VWL. I would recommend it for your honeymoon over the Contemporary (unless you go with a room in the tower with a MK view!).

Wow...well it seems like the consensus vote is to go with VWL...

I'm thinking that may be where we end up.

Anyone else?
Cheers,
Josh

I would go with VWL in a heartbeat!

Have stayed in a Garden room at CR and will never do it again. Have stayed in WL and will soon be staying at VWL and love the resort. VWL all the way!!! And it is such a short and nice boat ride from the WL to MK so you are really close.

I'd pick the Contemporary. We had a garden wing room and loved it. There is nothing like being on the monorail. So easy to get to MK and Epcot. Plus, you can zip easily over to the Poly and GF to eat and shop.

My take on this is save more bucks unless you got a super discount for the villas, and stay at the WL, or bump up to conceirge. We really enjoy the Lodge, have done standard view, courtyard view and conceirge. Regular room suits us fine we don't spend tons of time gawking out the window. We just returned this past September and had a courtyard view, fifth floor, gorgious, but we had a pin code.

CR..... this was where all our maddness started in 1977, done about 8 stays there before we got an offer to stay at the GF for the same price as the CR, bad move, GF is not to our liking, but WL just opened and it took our breath away. We've been back to the CR a couple times for old times sake and done a few Polys, now can't justify the price of the Poly, and the monorail is not all thats cracked up to be. When we stayed at the Poly, the dock boat of ferry from the TTC was used more than the monorail and when leaving the MK at closing, the line for the monorail resorts was way too long, we just grabbed the boat, either one. CR, hey its a walk to the MK, who wants to walk on vacation, back in 1977 weren't allowed to walk. We always stayed north garden wing, closest to MK back then so we've done enough monorailling.

WL still has access to the monorail via a boat ride to the CR and when we stay at WL, we do this on a few occasions just to do the loop for lounging and shopping, other than that the boat is just fine getting to the MK, if not quicker than the monorail.

For a secluded, quiet, romantic stay, honeymoon, our pick would be WL, take a bottle of wine down to the pool late at night, hardly anyone there in our experiences, sneak over to the hot tubs and then retreat back to your room with a mug of hot chocolate. Our piece of heaven but we're willing to share.
