VWL ressies at 5-6 months out?

I am considering purchasing the 350 point VWL contract out there, but sellers cannot close until 12/23/13. Our family likes to go to DW at the end of May, first week of June. How difficult would it be to get a 2 bedroom villa at VWL for these dates at 5-6 months out?

Can you ask seller to make reservation for you? That way when you close the reservation is already there.

The usual reason that a seller cannot close for such a long period of time is that they have a reservation at the resort that they intend to use. That raises the issue that you better make sure of the status of the points you are purchasing so that you will actually have points to be able to make a ressie for May-June 2014 because the seller may be using up points for the current or possibly even the next use year to make that reservation.

As to closing in late Dec, even it occurs then, you will still likely have two to three weeks thereafter before you can reserve. That will put you less than 5 months out when you attempt to reserve and your chances of finding anything at VWL for that late May to early June time of year that far beyond the 7 month reservation window are going to be low.

Also, unless something has changed, the seller cannot make a reservation for you that is going to occur after the closing. Disney cancels out such reservations at time of closing.

when the property is sold DVC cancels all current reservations. Probably why the current owner can not sell right now.

late May should not be a big problem. Summer can be iffy - but still think you have a decent chance. now bwv, bcv or blt - probably not - but vwl is not quite as popular as those - especially with non-DVC who generally go in the summer time.

most dvc avoid the summer if possible.

Did not know that DVC cancels out all reservations when sold. That is a bummer. Still a good chance at your reservation though.

now if you can take another place - OKW, SSR or AKV - then you can probably get May or June.

Keep in mind that VWL is the smallest of the DVC resorts, so even though you're not planning to travel during a "peak" time, this resort can fill up quickly simply due to its size.

What you do have going for you is that you're looking for the most readily available room type (2-bedroom unit). There are 44 dedicated 2-bedroom suites plus another 45 lockoff 2-bedroom suites (essentially, a 1-bedroom + studio that can be broken up and booked separately).

A lot will also have to do with the duration of your stay. 3-5 nights probably won't be an issue, but a 7-10 day stint might be more challenging, unless you're willing to do a split stay at another resort.

All of this is really just speculation at best, as you won't know until you try to book.

Are there any options I have besides waiting til we close and then call to get reservations? Can I call sooner to get on a waitlist, or do I have to wait for membership #, etc?

you have to wait -you should get a letter when you close and some people have called ms then to get their member number (this does not always work)

it take even longer to get on website - they did have to send the numbers in snail mail and that could take a couple of weeks.

Not to be a downer or anything but I have been following a thread in the purchase forum about delayed closing purchases. It might be a worthwhile read for you. I know it opened our eyes a bit.

As Spicey said, you have to wait. Only members can make reservations with their own points.

Personally, I would be very leery of anyone who cannot close a DVC contract for six months. It does sound like they have one last trip planned. Can't blame them for wanting to hold onto that reservation but if I were buying resale (which I have) I would look for a much more readily available contract. Have you looked at any of the other DVC resale sites?
