Got the following from MousePlanet.

Construction update

This week's listing of interesting items from paperwork filed with Orange County in the last week:

Villas at the Wilderness Lodge – General demolition, finish carpentry, sealants & caulking, painting, modification of Jacuzzi tub surround and low kitchen counter, reupholster of select existing upholstered furniture, refinishing/touch-up of select existing items, assembly & installation of new furniture, fixtures & equipment, installation of carpet & base.

This was reported here as a rumor a few months ago.

"low kitchen counter" sounds like they might be adding a handicap room or two. Maybe tearing out an existing counter to make it lower and more handicap accessible? Just a thought.

Did the VWL have the same soft rehab that the main building had a few years back? When we went in 2006, there were new tvs and entertainment centers. Carpet too, I think.

I'm hoping the reference to "new furniture" means the end of the old-style-metal-bar-in-your-back sofa beds.

Any ideas on when this is to start? It will probably make reservations there a little tight for a while.

We'll be there in a couple of weeks before our cruise. Maybe I'll ask the CM on check in when it starts.;)

If the renovations are going to require taking rooms out of service, DVC would have had to plan 9-10 months ago to comply with the booking windows.

I don't know any more about this than the permit states, so I'll be curious to hear more details. I have my doubts as to whether this is a full-blown modernization of the rooms as we've seen in Disney's Deluxe cash resorts. Disney has yet to update any of the DVCs and VWL would be an odd place to begin as it's one of the newer properties.

Not neccessarily true! Remember the AKV's Food and Wine debacle? I would hope they learned something from that and don't do a repeat. VWL is our favorite WDW resort. So hoping to add on there someday. Also hoping that our upcoming trip will inspire DH to think the same way!;)

We are going in November and would love to see any new furnishings! Hopefully it would be done by then.....

Oh boy.....I'm finally going "home" to WLV Oct 12th....I hope it is not noisy and ugly with a rehab going on:headache:

they do update - based on need.

every 5 years - they replace just about everything (not the furniture - unless it was badly damaged) - but they replace with the same stuff or as close to it as they can get.

don't think the carpet stays the same or the curtains - but most of the stuff.

that is why some of the couches at OKW don't match.

When we made our reservations for our past June trip we were told that the refurb should be complete by then. Of course it wasn't (and our poor guest spent the week rolling into the middle of the ridiculous sofa bed..and the aforementioned metal bar in the back).

So I'm glad to hear this is happening as we have a trip coming up next March. Makes me a little nervous though, as I don't wish to be sent to SSR vs VWL! (No offense SSR folk).

You know, i've never been fond of the words "Wilderness Lodge" and "Demolition" in the same sentence.:scared1: :scared1: i hope its not too bad

WDad...thanks for posting the notice. I agree that it would be nice to update the sleeper/sofas as well as get the flat screen tv's. Beyond that, I hope they don't mess with the decor. Even the ugly black & white chair can stay! :)

Does anyone remember how long it took them from start to finish for BCV? Just would like a time frame of when it may be ready. Maybe this is the reason reservations at WLV have been tighter than usual. :confused3 I also agree with Granny. I hope they don't mess with the decor.
