I keep reading about a dumpster view at the Villa's. Are you all joking? What and where is that? They have the nerve to charge full price?:bounce:

We sent DD and a friend to VWL for their h.s. grad. gift (DH and I prefer this to the famous 'Beach Week'). They were in a studio, #1555, and had the dumpster view. They weren't happy about it, but were philosophical enough to realize that they wouldn't be in the room that much. However, DH and I were not happy. For the price of points, every room should have a decent view, IMHO....

We just got back and we were in 3556 - Dedicated 2BR and we could look to our left from our balcony and see the roof of the building that the dirty laundry is kept in. My neice and her family had 3560, a studio, which looked directly at this area. They weren't pleased with it, but spent very little time on the balcony, so it wasn't too big of a deal.

The name of this post makes me chuckle every time I see it.

A good friend of mine (he was actually the first person that I know who bought DVC back in 92... and he occasionally reads these boards)... was staying in the Yacht Club in 1991. He visited the front desk and asked if he could be "upgraded" to the "dumpster veiw"... which (according to him) would be much more enjoyable than looking at the Dolphin Hotel.

The staff did give him a new room looking into one of the courtyards... and he was much happier. I wish I could have seen the front desk clerks face when he made that request :)

We had "the view" last Dec. We were on the 4th floor, next to the last room at the end of the hall. Was it our prefered view ? No. Did it affect our trip in anyway ? No. The area is not your typical mall parking lot dumpster area. It was kept very clean. There was no odor. You never actually see a dumpster - it's actually a building for laundry & trash collection. We never heard any noise from the area. In a couple more years as the trees continue to grow, it will become less and less visible.

Don't worry about getting the dumpster, it really isn't a problem.

Thank goodness! I was imagining myself facing the Great Kills dump in Staten Island! Is it in the back? Thanks for all your input!

It's not really "in the back". The VWL is basically a long building. All the rooms on the left side of the hallway face towards the pool & Bay lake. The opposite side face the woods, bus stop area. The Dumpster is on the woods side, almost to the end of the building. It's right in front of the last two rooms in the building and the 3rd & possibly 4th from the end rooms also have a partial view.

I would tend to agree - that is an ugly building. Another one of those views everyone loves but I could do without is the coveted BW. Don't get me wrong, you see Spaceship Earth and the Y&BC is lovely all lit up. But there is that horrible monstrosity of an Epcot sign they insisted on putting up over Spaceship Earth - as if a ten story geodome at WDW wasn't identifying enough. Much rather look at Pennywise.

(Of course, everyone has different taste, and if you think the Swan and Dolphin are lovely and the Epcot sign is wonderful, that is just fine. We just won't swap decorating ideas.)

Good! I requested a bay/pool view, hopefully I'll get it! Ergo, no dumpster!

Besides Non-smoking and non-handicapped, we just ask for one more thing: "Near the elevators" - By definition this keeps you both FAR from the dumpster view, and a much shorter walk to the WL. We have ALWAYS been satisfied with what we got with these minimalist requests - once we even got a spectacular room right on the atrium.

I guess I had the infamous dumpster view in early June!! I was at the end of the hallway on the fourth floor, woods view! I kept looking at it while I was there, thinking this can't be it because it didn't look THAT bad! I really thought it was fine, no big deal. It was more important to me that I was in a quiet location. I'd take this room again, no problem!

Keep in mind VWL also has the 1 room with no balcony. You may want to take a look at this info I've compiled to be sure to avoid the dumpsters and no balcony.

Here is a link with some room reports and it will give you some view comments. http://members.aol.com/InstImpres/wildernesslodge.pdf This will give you an idea of “sectional views”. It is extremely difficult to ask for a specific room (as well as trying on the CM’s). With the new room ready policy, guests have reported getting several choices at check-in and this may than help

I have also created a sheet that just has some highlights of rooms that may not work for everyones needs. You might find that helpful instead:

The files are in adobe acrobat and which can be downloaded from this site for free:

Happy travels

We will be staying at VWL in Dec. Although I did request a "non-dumpster" view (MS chuckled at this, but said they are getting that request more and more), I am SOOOOOOO excited to go, it really doesn't matter. As someone else on this board posted..."A dumpster view at WDW is better than ANY view at home!!!"

Just get me there!!!!!!LOL!!!!!!

I beleive we had this view in December we were on the 4th floor on the wooded side in a one bdrm - very far from the elevators! I kept saying to my DH "is that the dumpster view?" I was expecting so much worse - it never smelled and honestly did not affect our stay at all unless you went out on the balcony and just kept your eyes on it constantly - and even then I don't think it would bother me. Plus we got to see the higher fireworks from MK on the nights they had MVMCP! from this balcony.

We too had room 3560 (dedicated studio smack in front of the "dumpster view"). While it didn't actually feature a dumpster out in plain view, it was still not the most pleasant view. It seemed to be he turn around and storage area for laundry vehicles that always came at crazy hours of the morning. We did see a bunch of CM's taking breaks out there but they weren't really noisy. Also, when we got there my BF insisted that there was a "whizzing" noise coming from out there. Turns out there is a road back there with cars going by at a pretty fast clip.
