Ok, I'm not here to insult anyone, this is just our opinion. We have 150 OKW pts. and don't really like the resort. We bought it sight unseen and really are not enamored with it at all. It's too big for us. We like the smaller resorts where everything is close and within walking distant. This resort is just too big and laid out for us. We do however like the relaxed feeling there. We absolutely love HH and VB. We are looking into selling our OKW pts. and rebuying either BCV or VWL, but don't know if this is a smart move or if we'd even like these resorts as we've not been to BC and have visited VWL just to look around the lodge (this was pre-VWL). We don't like BWV because it's too busy and has a hotel feel to us. My questions are these: 1) How hard is it to obtain res. at either of these on a 7 month window? We now go in Jan/Feb. or Dec. but as our kids get older may be forced to the busier times. 2) Which resort do you think we'd like better? Can anyone help me with this?

You can try for BCV this December - (don't expect it next year) - because it is new and haven't sold out. I would expect VWL to be completed booked for December (it is the prettiest of all the DVC resorts in December, my opinion). but january you can probably get both.

by next year BCV will probably be sold out so it will harder to book at 7th month window also.

as to which you should try - well what do you like - rustic, beautiful, the geyser, and the MK or a more beach setting (vwl has a beach too), Atlantic type place that is near Epcot and Studios.

I think they are both beautiful - and I would kept my OKW points (less annual fee) until I really knew what I wanted.

Dec at 7 months at any resort is tough to get as it is one of the highest DVC demand times (busy Disney in general times are not the same as busy DVC times). I would think it likely that you will be able to get VWL and perhaps BCV at 7 months in Jan to early Feb (but not Presidents Week) but you may have to be flexible with actual dates. When you reach the stage of going only when kids are out of school, you will likely find that getting those resorts at a time like Easter (or other spring break), Christmas or Thanskgiving will be very difficult at 7 months but probably easier if you go in summer other than July 4 week (summer has proven to be a lower DVC demand time)

Selling OKW and then buying elsewhere most likely means you will lose a lot of money. Selling OKW will likely cost you $1500 in commisions and fees if you use a broker, and about half that if you don't. You will then be buying at VWL or BCV at a higher price than you paid for OKW.

To add to drusba's point, you would like pay more for your VWL points (and significantly more for your BCV points), than you will be able to sell your OKW points for - OKW points tend to be the cheapest points on the resale market - although only by a buck or two - so you are only talking about $150 - maybe $450.

If I were you, I would definitely visit those resorts before making a commitment. If you bought OKW site unseen and you don't like it, it would be awful to buy one of the other resorts and get there to find you don't like the one you chose.

I have heard some people comment that they wanted points at OKW but, couldn't get them so had to settle for other resorts. You never know, if you ask around and maybe put an ad on www.tug2.net you may even find someone willing to swap their resort for yours, which would save you commission on a sale.
