Just saw the cute new VW Rabbit commercial. Anyone think they'll ever bring back the Karmann Ghia?

Ah man! In high school I drove a silver 1979 diesel Rabbit we called "The Bit". It was da bomb! I could fill the tank with $10 and drive all month, although it topped out at about 50 mph. And I could shift from 3rd to 4th without pushing the clutch in. And the brakes didn't work so well (I almost rear-ended a Mercedes once). Oh ya, I was cool.

I'd rather have an old model Rabbit. These aren't Rabbit-like at all. They've lost all their Rabbitosity.

I just checked out their page at http://www.vw.com, and they don't look Rabbity. With a 5-cylinder 2.5 liter engine, they don't drive Rabbity. And at 22 miles per gallon city, 30 miles per gallon highway, they don't sip gas in a Rabbity fashion either.

I'd be better off going to South Africa and picking up a brand-new VW Rabbit Model I. Their fully-loaded model goes for about 13,000.

Sigh. I miss the White Rabbit.

Da Bunny! DH is so entranced-but we've always been VW people.

If they come out with the camper or the Thing redesigns, I think we'll be getting another VW, but the new Rabbit (always the Bunny to us) is awful cute.

No idea. But a "dream" car of mine is a totally fixed up VW Thing!

Having checked out the VW site ~ I much prefer the old style rabbit.

My sister and I shared a teal blue Ghia. I get excited when I see one on the road today. :cloud9: We could put $2.00 worth of gas in and drive for 2 weeks. I hope they do bring them back!

I used to have a '79 Rabbit. It snowed inside the car in the winter when I turned the heat on. Good times...

My dad had a 77 (or 75, can't remember) rabbit. It was a POS. Fun to drive though. My first experience with frontwheel drive.

My first car was an '84 VW Rabbit that my dad had bought brand new and then I got when I went to college. I loved that car and probably would have kept it much past 1993 when I was rear ended by a Ford F-150. Not only did I spend a week in the hospital, have surgery on my jaw and spend six months in physical therapy, I also lost my beloved bunny as a result of that accident

That's terrible. I hope there weren't any long-term effects.

My Rabbit sacrificed itself in a collision just as it was on its last hoppy legs. A driver broadsided me after running a stop sign. Her insurance company paid me $1200 for my rabbit, which I had bought five years before for $500.

Now I'm considering a trip to South Africa.

Ever since I can remember (way back as a little kid), I have always wanted a Karmann Ghia! Every time I see someone w/a vintage Karmann Ghia, I just drool and dream about owning one. I have never seen them, locally, on the used car lots but have never really pursued it. I would love it if they brought them back!!!

ETA - I'd like a convertible, and automatic (they never made 'em that way before and it would be so much more convenient for me if they made 'em in automatic!)

Looks like they are bringing back the Rabbit's preppy cousin too. The Scirocco.

My husband's first car was a diesel Rabbit truck. He didn't seem thrilled that the Rabbit was back!
