VRbo? homeaway? airbnb?

Our last 2 trips to WDW have been for 4 and 5 weeks. We used VRBO both times. When you contact the owners, a lot of them will give you a discount for renting for longer than a week, particularly if you're going during the low season.

You'll get the best discount if you wait about 4-6 weeks before the start of your vacation to book your house, but then you'll have to choose from what's left.

VRBO does not stand behind "their" listings. It's no different than an ad in the paper, caveat emptor. If you read the fine print they take no responsibility for anything. So treat those just as if you were seeing them on Craiglist or some other non-official site. FlipKey is similar, but I haven't heard as many horror stories. Frankly, those sites (including Homeaway) are the the last ones I check.

AirBNB (and I have no relation with them, except as a very satisified customer) is great. They actually stand behind the quality of the listing, and the pictures and descriptions I have seen are better. Unfortunately, VRBO has a lot of listings, so you may not be able to find what you want on AirBNB. I've had good luck with local property management companies, too.

Just our personal experience - DH and I have used VRBO several times, including in other countries, and have never had an issue with a place we booked. Every property we've stayed at was exactly as described. We look for good and varied reviews from previous guests (you can tell if they're legit reviews after reading several listings), and we make sure the owner is responsive to our emails and questions before we book with them.

I had one issue but it wasn't a place I actually stayed at. I contacted an owner about a property in Philly and he wrote back immediately saying that the place I wanted wasn't available (even though the calendar on VRBO said it was) but he had other properties "nearby" that were available. I told him I didn't want some other place, sight-unseen. He was very persistent and I had to tell him I wasn't interested and to leave me alone or I'd contact VRBO and complain - he never contacted me again after I made that threat, so VRBO must have some leverage over people who list with them. BTW, I did find a fantastic condo on VRBO for that trip right in the middle of Philly's best shopping and dining - worked out perfect!

We have used VRBO several times and all have been great experiences! We also have lots of friends who used them and they all only have positive feedback as well.
