VP Is Visiting DLR This Weeknd + Protesters

If you’re traveling to DLR this weekend, multiple reports indicate that the Vice President will be visiting Disneyland with his family and staying at the Grand Californian. He’s expected in town tonight via Sunday morning. This by itself will increase the security presence through the area, but obviously given how controversial politics are these days, numerous protests are being scheduled in the area surrounding DLR.

This is NOT a political discussion but rather an alert of what’s happening at the resort.

Has there been confirmation from a sane reputatble outlet (so not reddit or TikTok) that he is going to be at DLR itself? The same accounts pushing this are the same ones that were deliberately pushing misinformation targeting the terminally online about ICE at the Fairfield.

There have been a lot of photos and videos of increased security at GCH. Would he stay at GCH and not go to Disneyland?

We haven’t seen any “VIPs” but there is definitely a lot more security here today. Lots of Anaheim PD, lots of Disney security, lots of private security.

I doubt anyone will confirm it but it’s happening. OCR is reporting that DLR and especially GCH have been beefing up security in recent days. VP’s aids have confirmed that he’s having family time this weekend. Other sleuths have determined it’s the VP’s plane headed to SNA.

WDW isn’t as equipped to handle VIPs as DLR, so if his family wants Disney, it’s not surprising he’d come here.

I’d say it’s pretty likely he’s here. We are staying at the Grand Californian now. We haven’t seen him but you can’t move with out running into security of some sort. Local police, Disney security, private security, secret service are all here. They aren’t allowing folks in unless you are staying here or have a dining res. We went out for dinner and when we came back we had to prove we were staying here to be let in the gate. Then secret service had us go through a setup like at the airport to get to our room.

Just saw some video of about a dozen protesters at the northeast corner of Katella and Harbor. So nowhere near the hotel. (Or for that matter, Disneyland.) Dunno if any other groups have other plans.

Several dozen (100?) of them walked down Katella to Disneyland Drive. When they turned the corner they were met by a slew of Anaheim PD cars and some officers quickly going onto the sidewalk. So currently a standoff some distance from the GCH entrance.

Isn't the most private accommodation the suite above Pirates? Maybe there wasn't enough room for secret service.

GCH is the only Disney property with the infrastructure to privately handle VIP guests. Much of it is unknown as the employees sign and adhere to NDAs.

There’s some videos online of the VP arriving at the hotel and there must’ve been a couple dozen unmarked cars in the line-up so presumably this has been planned for awhile.

DLR’s ability to handle VIPS (WDW is too big and too spread out) as well as the fact that they’re still hand checking all belongings is likely why the VP is vacationing (again) in a state he otherwise badmouths constantly.

Because I’m stubborn and have a routine of how I like to get into DCA from VDH/DLH we went though the Grand tonight to get into the park. A few observations -

Security/PD/Feds everywhere.

Corn dog castle walkway (nope you cant go that way)

They watch you scan your room key on the gate sensor. No tailgating allowed for you!

You’re getting extra security to get into the hotel grounds. What do I do when I check in on Sunday (we are doing a split stay and moving over to the Grand Villa Sunday afternoon at VGC). Can I bring my pocket knife to my room to cut the tags of my merch I buy LOL?

Some poor soul was checking in and brining though his supplies for his room. He looked like a solid contender for a DVC/villa owner/guest as he had a ton of stuff with him and food/supplies/shopping. They were making him shove all of it though the scanner and he didn’t seem like it was a fun time.

At almost every junction/path people are very nicely asking you where you are headed and moving you along your path.

I’m grateful I’m a crazy idiot and did an overlapping booking at VDH for Sunday so we have a staging area to keep our stuff and hopefully we can just wait until it’s over or I’m just going to have bell services deal with the transfer and they can shove the stuff though the zapper

Can't wait to hear what it's like in the park...boats full of Secret Service before and aft in Pirates...clearing out whole queues for Peter Pan..I'm sure they'll love ROTR...
Well, I hope we at least get a pic of him with some ears on! AND I AM SO GLAD I DIDN'T PLAN MY TRIP FOR JULY! You know, most of the time a celeb is in the park, you don't even know it (unless it's the KarJenner crowd) and there are so many VIP tours now for non celebs, I hardly pay attention...but this should be interesting and frankly, I am a little surprised Disney bought into it...why didn't they just do after hours or something to avoid the disruption?
