No not ours ;) My parents 30th Anniversary is coming up and we are planning a vow renewal. It will be very private and my brother is going to be the officiant. We will follow it up with dinner afterwards.

Anyway, since it's a suprise, we are writing the ceremony for them and I'm looking for some ideas. Anyone have some they would be willing to share?:goodvibes

I am sure that a vow renewal is a great idea, but no offense but what do you mean by writing the ceremony for them?

is there a way maybe you can get their original vows to one another from their wedding day? By video camera? or something along the lines? just an idea

We had a vow renewal and had the blessing of the hands ceremony. It is beautiful and perfect for a vow renewal! Here it is:

(I copied it from the info Rev. Knox sent me. "N and N" are not our initials)

We would like to take a moment to bless the hands of N., and N. For it is through the hands that we demonstrate our love and commitment to one another.

N, and N, please face each other and join both hands so that we may bless them.

N, and N These are the hands of your best friend, strong and full of love for you.

They are being held by yours as you two renew the promise to love each other for the rest of your lives.

These are the hands that will continue to work alongside yours as together you two build a future and share your innermost secrets and dreams.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other.

These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief threatens to overwhelm you.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold the (Grand)children.

These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.

These are the hands that be there to give you strength when you need it the most.

And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.

Prayer: (optional)

God, bless these hands that you see before you this day. May they always be held by one another. Keep them tender and gentle as they nurture each other in their wondrous love. Help these hands to continue building a relationship founded in your grace. May N, and N see their four hands as healer, protector, shelter and guide. We ask this in your name, Amen.

When you married ___years ago you had no idea what life had in store for you. Your togetherness as husband and wife, at times, may have been under difficult circumstances. Your circumstances may have required great faith, but your faith has found you steadfast and its now brings you to this point in your life where you joyfully reaffirm your love for one another.

I now invite you to look into each others eyes.

Renewal of marriage vows

N, this woman, whom you hold by the hand, is your wife. She has given you one of the most sacred things under heaven: a woman’s life and a woman’s love. She will continue to look to you for support, loyalty, and understanding.
Do you renew your vow here, as you have promised N,
That you will be true and loyal,
Patient in sickness,
Comforting in sorrow,
And forsaking all other, keep yourself only unto her,
So long as you both shall live?

I DO

N , this man whom you hold by the hand is your husband. It is upon your life, your love and your devotion that he will lean upon for strength and inspiration. He will continue to look to you for encouragement, cheerfulness, and confidence. Do you renew your vow here, as you have promised N,
That you will be loyal in adversity,
Ministering to him in affliction,
Comforting in sorrow,
And forsaking all others,
Keeping yourself only into him as long as you both shall live?

I DO

This is what they read for ours...you can hear it in the video below.

VOW RENEWAL CEREMONY

INTRODUCTION

________ and_________, welcome to the re-affirmation ceremony of your marriage.

On this beautiful occasion, I commend you both. In this day and age, it has becoming increasingly rare to see couples sustain a commitment to each other. By contrast, you are taking this moment at this place to express to the world your continued and growing love for each other.

CEREMONY

So, we have gathered here (in the presence of family and friends) to re-affirm your marriage vows and the love you have for each other.

You entered into this union advisedly and reverently. The years have drawn you closer, not only as husband and wife, but also as the very best of friends.

VOWS
(Turn to face each other and join both hands)

(Husband)
I _______________ re-affirm that you ________________ are my wife and my best friend. I promise to continue my love for you, to cherish you, to honor you, and to keep you. In good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, whatever the future may bring, I shall continue to be true to you all the days of my life.

(Wife)
I _______________ re-affirm that you ________________ are my husband and my best friend. I promise to continue my love for you, to cherish you, to honor you, and to keep you. In good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, whatever the future may bring. I shall continue to be true to you all the days of my life.

At this time, is there anything you would like to say to personally express your love for one another?

RINGS

When you first stood side-by-side for your marriage celebration, you presented to each other a ring. The rings became symbols of your bond and devotion and ever-lasting love.

Today we re-affirm the bond of love by again giving and receiving these rings.

(Husband)
____________________ will you place this ring on the proper finger of your wife and repeat after me…
With this ring, I re-affirm my love and marriage to you, and shall continue to share with you all my life has to offer today, tomorrow and forever.

(Wife)
____________________ will you place this ring on the proper finger of your husband and repeat after me…

With this ring, I re-affirm my love and marriage to you, and shall continue to share with you all my life has to offer today, tomorrow and forever.

CONCLUSION

For as much as you have re-affirmed your wedding vows and endless love for each other, I re-affirm that you are husband and wife.

_________________ , you may now re-affirm your love by kissing your beautiful wife.

Let those present and those who may be told know that standing here before me are
Mr. and Mrs. __________________________.

…And they continued to live happily ever after!

Ok, so from what I get you want to write their vows? I am sorry, but that doesn't really make a lot of sense. I can understand getting their renewal together because that is kind of sweet but I don't think you should write their vows because that is something personal between a man and a wife. Why not give them a gorgeous anniversary party instead? They should have some say of what they are going to tell their spouse. Or better yet, maybe they should at least know about the renewal so they can give some input to how everything should look or what your parents will want to wear. They entered marriage knowing about their ceremony, you can at least give them a vow renewal where they have some say.

Thanks everyone!! My brother is talking to the Reverand tomorrow to nail down the details even though he's performing the renewal himself! I'm really excited and I think they will be too! It's going to be intimate, just 6 of us and we are going to dinner afterwards.

Is there any chance of using their original ceremony? I think that would be really romantic!

These are really helpful! During our ceremony, we were thinking about slipping in a "VR" for both of our parents (this year will be my parents 35th anniversary, still trying to find out the date for the DF)

Unfortunatley no...I don't think anyone has that. They had a very small ceremony 30 years ago with just a few guests and a party in my grandparents basement. My mom didn't even wear a traditional wedding dress. There are only a few pictures and no video or anything.
