Anyone have experience with this on DCL?

We would have done it either way, but I am told that having a wedding on board, you're listed as a VIP, mostly because securing specific appointments and reservations are important to the timing of the wedding.

Just wondering, other than being in group 1 for boarding, what does it actually mean for us? I believe my appointments are scheduled....and we have a Palo brunch reservation time.

If you don't get an answer here try HERE. There were lots of DCL couples on there when I was planning my DFTW

Have you purchased the DCL wedding package? Not sure I understand the question. Were you planning on having a private wedding ceremony outside of the purchased wedding (which I believe is not allowed).
There are plenty of onboard wedding related threads; just search onboard wedding.

Are you asking about the planning process, arrival/boarding procedures or onboard experience?

For pre-cruise planning, you be working with a DFTW specialist who would help secure the plans related to the wedding or vow renewal. That would include the ceremony and reception/dinner plans. I don’t think it would extend to planning for your other days like port excursions or regular onboard activities (spa, adult dining, etc.). Unless you booked a concierge stateroom.

For arrival/boarding, I think priority PAT and boarding group because the “official” wedding ceremony is done at port before departure. Since a vow renewal doesn’t involve anything official, I don’t know if priority status would be included, maybe so you have time to go over final plans.

Onboard experience probably isn’t particularly different except for your one special day with the wedding/vow renewal plans. I don’t think you’re given concierge access unless that’s what you booked.

No it was more like other than early boarding, what did our wedding coordinator mean by we are listed as "VIP"?

Our stewards took really good care of us and we got some surprise gifts waiting for us in our rooms. A lot of the other crew began to recognize my husband and I as the wedding couple throughout our trip. Our onboard coordinator met with us the first day and went over the itinerary for the day of and made sure all the information from our planning guide was correct. Aside from getting my hair/make-up appointment set for me and getting BBB appointments for my flower girls, we didn't get first pick on other onboard activities.
