Anyone experiened their DH freaking out when "vow renewal" was mentioned? I mentioned it to my DH over the holidays and he was completely against it. I mean adamently against it.He didn't think it was necessary and then started questioning why I wanted to do this, since we never took vows to begin with. We were married in Copenhagen, Denmark on 5 March 2002 in a courtroom. In europe getting married is a legal process, so we got married, had a drink with the judge and visited Copenhagen at the same time.We have been thru some really rought times in the last 5 years and to be honest I am still surprised that we are married. At this point, we will probably stay married as we have been thru so much, and are still together. I am planning my annual beach trip to the Sinai peninsula (Sharma El Shiek, Egypt) and I thought that we could make a side trip to Cairo. I have a good friend who just moved there and we can stay with her. I would love to do the VR at the pyramids, I could care less what language or religion it is in. Egypt is my favorite place in the whole world and I would love to have it there. My thinking was it is between the two of us and a sprititual thing. Anyway, we are still going to go to Cairo and the beach but no VR, I may just have to settle for a photo of the two of us at the pryamids:) and in front of the Sphinx. We are staying at the Four Seasons for the beach part, so that will be romantic enough and I plan on telling them we are renewing our vows, so maybe they will do something to make it special:)

Maybe DH has never heard of a vow renewal and thinks you're saying that you guys need to get married again? Perhaps you could explain to him what you told us, about the spiritual aspect of it, and tell him how important it is to you....

actually I mentioned it to him pretty much the same way I wrote this! He just didn't grasp the concept of a vow renewal when we never actually took any vows. He also asked if dysfunctional family members had to be there and would this turn out to be a cash/gift grab event? at that point I dropped the subject completely. He was also adament about not sending out announcements when we did get married as he thought it was tacky and just grubbing for money or gifts. Even though I told him we could plainly state no gifts please. I have been married before and did the entire wedding/ registry thing and had no desire to repeat that fiasco again. This is his first marriage and I guess he just doesn't get it!! He was 100% agreeable to the holiday plans and has no problem with staying at the Four Seasons, actually I got a great rate on their website and you do have to be careful where you stay and what you eat in Africa. We will go in May and have photos taken at all of the amazing sites and I will silently say a prayer about renewing our vows to each other, at least this way I still get what I want:). I will be emailing the hotel about our special event, especially since their website encourages this!!

I want to do a VR for our 15th anniversary in 2009. DH will go along with it if it is something I really want. He wants to take either an Alaska cruise/land tour or do the Canadian Rockies(we have 2 boys who will be 8 and 13 in 09).

It would probably end up being just the 4 of us, because DH will not use our DVC points to bring his sister down(he's really honked at her family's behavior at Xmas), who know's how long MIL will be around(88 and going downhill fast, plus she'd be miffed that it wasn't in a Catholic church). Then I just have my obsessive compulsive sister, who managed to make one over night at WDW before she freaked out and had to go home.

So I may push it out until the 20th in 2014, I think that's more of a significant one that would require a VR at WDW.

Just wonder how much an Escape package will cost then? $8000:rotfl2:
