Vouchers from airlines?

DH received $500 voucher from Northwest air. Plus he has frequent flyer miles equal to one ticket. My question is can my kids and I use his voucher money for our airfare or is it only for him?? What if he is going with us?
I hope we can use it b/c we want to go in June and airfare is still so high.

I am not sure on the voucher - call NWA. However, I have booked a ticket for my stepdaughter using my husband's FF Miles. So you should be able to do that.

Vouchers are not like money. Airlines may differ (and I'm pretty sure that Southwest is different in this regard), but generally, vouchers need to be used to purchase travel for the same traveler for which they were originally granted. They generally cannot (same exclusion applies) be split and used for more than one traveler.

Of course, calling NW will get you the absolutely answer for this specific voucher.

More than likely you can book travel for anyone you'd like. I've used my vouchers for various friends and family over the years, same with my miles. (And let's see. . .I've been bumped for vouchers. . .10, 12 times in my life?) The vouchers are like cash to the airlines. They don't necessarily want you to sell them, but they don't care WHO you book travel for.

One note I just thought of - make sure your airfare is MORE than the voucher. If you have $500 on ONE voucher and you book a $300 flight you may lose the extra $200, depending upon airline.

When I was coming home from my vacation last week, they were looking for people to give up their seats and offered $500 vouchers. They said that the voucher was for you or anyone you would like to give it to. This was Continental though, so I don't know if all airlines are the same.
