Voting Early

Here in GA we use the same machines that are used on Election Day. Our votes are electronic. Our unique voting id number is programmed onto a card the sizr of a credit card. We slip the card into a slot in the machine and the various screen pop up and we touch the part next to the name of the person we want to vote for (or issue). You have a chance on each page to change your vote and again at the very end before you "send" your vote. If you have a write in candidate (as I did for Hillary)then you touch write in and a keypad pops up so you can type in the name.Very simple and NO chads!!

I LOVE early voting and that is the only way I prefer to vote.

Thanks for this! DH already mailed his absentee ballot (he's out of state for awhile), but I didn't realize that I could do early voting in person. I know what I'll be doing on Tuesday before work! :thumbsup2

I voted earlier this week. I all ready knew who I was voting for, so I got it done. I have a feeling the polling places are going to be very busy, and I would really rather avoid all that.

DH and I voted early in Illinois and it was a very smoothe process. We used to vote absentee in Iowa. I feel extremely confidant that my vote will count.

In the interests of full disclosure, I have been steadfast in my desire to make it more difficult to vote, so as to discourage (suppress, even!) those who haven't done their homework from voting.
Wow, you must be soooo proud of yourself! Good for you!:sad2:

We don't have early voting in Missouri, and I anticipate things being a little bit crazy next Tuesday.
But as always, I look forward to voting even if I have to stand in line! :thumbsup2
Election Day has always been an exciting day to me! :cool1: :yay: :cheer2:

I voted this past Sunday. I think that it makes good sense not to stand in endless lines if a person doesn't have to.

In Ohio, we've been able to vote since 9/30/08. I believe each county has one site open for it. It's all paper ballot, not absentee but real ballot. Keeps the lines down on election day and guarantees that your vote is counted, not changed by some stupid machine. I think many if not most states have made provisions for early voting. Oregon voters mail their ballot in and have for many years. I did it to protect my vote and so I would be able to work outside the polls on election day helping those having trouble. I've taken two classes about safeguarding one's vote and legalities of Ohio voting. I was going to drive people to the polls but seems we have too many people working on that here. What a wonderful predicament to be in. We also had way too many people apply to work in the precincts as official Board of Elections employees. They turned thousands away here. Ohio is organized after too many years of criminal activity at the healm of our state. Ken Blackwell is gone for good and Ohio's vote count will be done as honestly and concisely as possible. Yay!

Yay! Now that ACORN is involved all is well.

And drive people to the polls, give them a cigarette and sing to them the praises of your candidate. Yep, I'm convinced that the count will be honest and concise.

Here in Maryland early voting is not in place but is a question on the ballot. Personally, I'm opposed and will be voting against allowing early voting.

I'm also a Marylander who doesn't have the option of early voting.. and I'm glad for it. I understand the need for absentee ballots for those who are not physically in the country, in the hospital or bedridden, or other extreme case at the time of the election. If one is able-bodied and in the US, then I think all of the voting should happen on Election Day. JMO, of course.

School is closed here on Election Day. I would rather have stood in line for 20 minutes (1.5 and more in other places) alone than with a rather bored child. Yay for early voting. I am convinced so many people here have early voted that no one will be voting on Election Day.

;)

I thought the early ballots in Ohio were the paper absentee ballots. Do you mean they're not provisional ballots?

Here in California, we can vote by mail. In our household, we are permanent absentee voters. As long as the ballot is received at the county by the end of election day, our votes are counted. You can drop off an absentee ballot at any polling place on election day, too.

I voted here in FL the other day. I thought it went much smoother than typical election days here. I am glad I avoided the crowds.

did you need your actual voters registration card or was a DL enough??

I want to try to go this afternoon if I can but I can't find the dumb card.

Iowa has early voting. At least in my county, for all elections we use paper ballots, fill in the circle and put it in the scanning machine. If you request a ballot by mail, or if you go to an early voting site (my public library), you will fill out the same ballot you would receive on election day. After filling out the ballot, it's sealed in 2 envelopes and either mailed back or handed to the election worker. On election day, the early voter ballots are delivered to the proper precinct, opened, and run through the scanner.

I feel like it is secure, and my vote will be counted. I know the precincts will be very busy on November 4th. I actually had to wait in line to vote early, on a Thursday afternoon.
