Voter Registration

Be careful! Absentee Ballots are ONLY for voters who will be far way from their Voting Place on Election day (something like more than 250 miles). Voting Absentee & being home that day is Illegal!:scared1:

Although I dont know how THEY willl ever know.

The people they call "shut ins" are allowed to vote absentee. That's why I suggested it.

I'm way far from being "shut-in" --- :rotfl2:

Maybe we should go to a system where none of us could vote, that would end that now wouldn't it :thumbsup2

Where I live in the Poconos PA, 80% of the people commute to NJ & NY for work.....so Most people leave Before the polls open, and return home after the polls close. Absentee Voting became BIG Issue here, and they make a BIG deal about this law here.

Is it true that the absentee ballots don't even get counted unless its close or a recount is necessary? If so then I don't see the benefit in voting absentee unless you truly are not able to get to the polls. Also is early voting counted the same way as absentee??

Oh and Monday was the last day to register here in Florida and I made sure to get to the elections office to turn in my DH's registration (he couldn't drop it off due to work and I work not too far from the elections office)

But early voting if so easy. I could walk down to the Board of Elections (I work a block) away and be back in my office before 5. My college student son will either vote next week while he's on fall break or pick up an absentee ballot. It's his first presidential election , and he's excited about it.

I'm really curious about you never registering to vote. Did your parents not vote? I made sure both of my young adult sons and the younger one's long-time girlfriend got registered the first time they were eligible. My dad took me to register when I was 17. I don't really know anyone in my family who doesn't vote, but we don't all vote the same way.

not voting or not registering does a disservice to the people who fought for your right to vote:sad2:

Famo - I don't agree with you. If one is not that interested either way, then why bother, my life will move forward no matter who the President is or isn't, correct ???:thumbsup2

I'm not trying to be rude, I guess to me I've always looked at it as who really cares either way someone will be President.

Now If I get to vote for Playmate of the Year, thats different all together, just kidding of course.

My DH won't register to vote and never has. I've stopped talking to him about it; it doesn't do any good.

I LOVE voting on election day - such an exciting thing to me. But, we'll be on a cruise ship the first week of Nov so I'll have to vote early.

I voted today. In Arizona, if you want to vote by mail, or abesentee, you just need to specify that when you reigister. Then you get a ballot in the mail along with insttructions as to the correct way to fill in the bubbles, an explanation of the ballot issues and propositions and a pre paid envelope to mail it back. You can mail it back as soon as you get it or you can take it to the registrarss office or you can take it to the poll. In AZ if you decide you want to vote in person and you have recieved a ballot in the mail, you may do so, however, the ballot in person will be placed into a special area for verification against the mailed ballots, so you can't vote twice.

So DISUnc, perhaps where you live absentee ballots are only for those who can't get to the polls, in AZ they are for anyone who wishes to vote early. All states have their own election laws.

you don't have to agree with me but the truth is people died so that you could have the right to vote. The more people who turn to apathy about the process of voting and making their voice heard the greater the government will impose on their future. I hope you reconsider.:dance3:

In Texas you can vote early for any reason. They make it very easy. You can vote an any of the polling places set up in your county for early voting instead of waiting until election day and voting at your specified precinct. No need to sign up early. Just show up and vote!

As to the original topic - I'm 50 and have voted in every election, local and national, since I was 18. I can't imagine NOT voting. :confused3
