Heinz Kerry keeps it quiet: Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry, made a visit to the Twin Cities but spoke only privately — at a fund-raiser at the Minneapolis Club and to gardeners at St. Paul's West Side Youth Farm. "Vote often and vote well," was her only political statement to adults involved with the program.

*snort* ROFL

Ok, I'm going to just give her the benefit of the doubt and say she probably didn't really mean it. But, this really did make me chuckle. The poor woman just cannot keep her foot out of her mouth. It's making me start to like her, gosh darn it. (but not enough to vote for her husband one time, let alone "often") :hyper:

It's an old saying Tony. It was supposed to be funny.
Get with it.

MY name is Jen, my HUSBAND'S name is Tony. Get with it, bun. :D

And the old saying is, "vote early and vote often"

AND, it WAS funny, but only because she probably didn't mean it that way.

Or maybe she meant to vote often in future elections...like each one not only the presidential elections.

LOL...you're right Jen that is funny. Poor woman, she does try. I honestly dont know how these women can put up with all the politics and campaigning. NO THANKS!!

Of course Chicago's Mayor Daley too the "old saying" quite literally, and that is indeed what happened. The Democrats have also been registering convicted felons in some of these battleground states. At least she didn't advise voting from the cemetary....yet!

Dawn,

Maybe she will yet! :teeth:

First of all, the judicial system has been known to convict people of crimes that they did not commit. Hence, we have some convicted felons that are innocent. Is it ALWAYS fair that they then not be allowed to vote, adding further to punishment that they didn't deserve in the first place?
And second of all......CLICK HERE!!

Oh yeah, I'm SURE that's what she meant. I see your  and raise you a :p

My granddaddy voted after he was dead -- for Ronald Reagan, Jesse Helms . . . straight Republican.

My guess is that she was probably trying to insert a little levity into whatever situation she was in.

Have we sunk so low that we can appreciate a little humor?

Well, I don't know if your  was directed at me, the topic originator, but I certainly saw and appreciated the humor.

Disney Doll,

While I think that we can all agree that it was a jest, "but" (to borrow one of Kerry's favorite words) given what transpired in 2000 and all of the allegations of electoral wrong-doing (and with it the seeds of a LOT of the vitriol we're seeing today), I don't think such a "crack" shows good judgement. Can you imagine the cries that would arise if Lynn Cheney made a "cute" remark about trying to suppress the minority vote?

Actually I think Teresa is correct. Americans should vote often...they should vote in their local elections and ensure that their voices are heard when choosing members for school board, selectmen, or mayor.

I think Americans should vote often for state races...make your voices heard when choosing members of your state senate and house or for governor or treasurer or attorney general.

I think Americans should vote often in their national elections...your congressmen and senators are making domestic policy and if you don't make your voice heard in their selection, you have forfeited your right to complain.

I think Americans should vote often but the sad fact is they rarely vote at all.

::yes:: ::yes::

Most people don't "get" Theresa. She really needs to restrict her remarks to quiet fundraising among the moneyed on the coasts.

Certainly, we don't want her loose among the people! OMG-catastrophe!:sunny:

Why? Because she has a brain and she uses it? Because she's the chairwoman of a world-wide billion dollar non-profit organization? Because she has spent tireless hours and years championing environmental issues, children and women's rights and human rights throughout the world? Because she wasn't born in the United States? Because she speaks five languages and is highly educated? Because she has an opinion? Because she speaks her mind?

Last time I checked, this was a free country and the discourse of ideas was still encouraged. I think most mature Americans can handle it. No need to lock her in the closet... I think the majority of Americans can handle the broadening of their horizons.

BTW...her name is spelled Teresa

The Democrats have also been registering convicted felons in some of these battleground states.

In many states, felons can vote. In some, it's once they're no longer on probation/parole. In others (including Oklahoma), they can vote after a period of time equal to how long they were originally sentenced has passed after their release from prison. (So if someone begins serving a 10-year sentence in 1984, they are released in 1994, they may register to vote in 2004.)
