We are staying in a studio at VGC in May and are considering getting Vons to deliver groceries. I had a question about pricing. Are the prices comparable to grocery stores nearby? Can I use coupons on their website?

We are still debating whether or not to have a rental car for our trip, so we might not need it, but I just want to be prepared!

Thanks!

When I lived in Northern California, I used grocery deliver with their sister company Safeway. There are special coupons available for online groceries, and there are often deals posted on the website. The prices seem to be the same as the ones found in the stores.

Remember, they offer free delivery on the first order if it's $50 or more.

Here's a link about getting a club card and adding the coupons onto it. From there you can use it when you select grocery delivery. http://www.vons.com/ifl/grocery/Coupons

Von's is usually higher on their soda and water than buying from Wal-Mart or Target and their groceries are slightly higher than a Kroegers or Food 4 Less type of grocery store. But it's still cheaper than buying soda or water by the bottle and buying snacks in the park or at the gift shop. But for us, for the conveinance of having the groceries delivered to the resort, (not trying to find a grocery store in a city we aren't familar with, saving us the possibility of getting lost, saving us the time of having to grocery shop, saving me the headache of trying to shop with an I want everything child, etc.) the price difference really was a moot point.

The closest grocery store is a Food for Less 1.1 miles away. You would need to have a car to buy any groceries. Vons is pretty reasonably priced, if the only reason you got the car was for groceries, I'd have Vons deliver.

So Safeway and Vons will deliver? You pre order online?

::yes:: Just place my order for 4-11 and had to add more to get to the minimum.
But the free delivery made it worth it.

I plan to order from Vons too in my June trip. Do we have to be in the hotel when the delivery arrive? I'm staying at DLH (if it makes any difference).

Thanks!!

No, you do not. We let the bell desk know (we have stayed at all three resort hotels and had deliveries to all of them) that the groceries were coming. The bell desk even kept the refrigerated items cold for us till we got back to our room and delivered the items to our room when we called.

The Food 4 Less is located at 1616 W Katella. If you're staying at the Grand Californian make a left out of the main entrance, (I've never used the self parking since DP is disabled so we always use the complimentary Valet) I guess self parking is across the street, so you would make a right. Either way head south on West Street (aka Disneyland Drive) and turn right (heading West) on Katella.

The Food 4 Less will be on your left about a mile down Katella. If you're in shape you could probably walk it, but not if you're buying a case of water! :rotfl2:

I find Vons to be a tad more expensive than Kroger/Food 4 Less (or in my neck of the woods, it is Ralphs) in general, but it is worth it when you need things delivered and can't take the time to fiddle with going to the store. (Vons is owned by Safeway, but the online delivery service is all the same thing; in other words, it's not two separate delivery services.) Vons will set up your Club Card account number, and so when you order online, you will get all the same discounts with the Club Card offerings as you would if you went into a Vons/Pavilions/Safeway store. Every now and then, they have some great deals.

In fact, I just had a Vons/Safeway delivery to my home about 4-1/2 hours ago, and got some great deals on water ($4.00 for a 24-pack case of Arrowhead, whereas you can pay almost $4.00 for one lone bottle of water at DLR!!:scared1:) and other items this week - one pound of strawberries was only 79 cents!!!!!!!!! Plus, you can order anything from Vons/Safeway online that you would get in the store, for the most part (unless they are out of stock). This includes flowers/plants, medicines, hygiene products, alcohol, fresh fruits and veggies, juices, eggs, fresh meats, all frozen foods, fresh baked goods (like if you wanted a birthday cake delivered to your hotel, for example, you could have Vons deliver it) and everything in between. Other grocery delivery services I have used have been much more limited. I use a back-up service called Yummy Delivery when I don't have a full $50 worth of groceries to order from Vons, but Yummy Delivery has only about 1/4 of the selection of stuff that Vons/Safeway has.

I just called a week ago to find out if there was a car rental place at the hotel and there is alamo at DTD. I told him we were going to get groceries and only needed a one day rental (probably cheaper then a cab). The hotel said use vons and you only need to be there if you are ordering alcohol to prove you are 21, its then a two hour window.

I also said we needed a special order and he said the white water cafe might be able to do it for us (hemp milk for our son, he cant have dairy or soy) they havent called back but I am sure they might be able to special order for us - its a nice option to think about!

Also there is a costco in fullerton about 3-5 miles away - before VGC we would go stock up there too...

I wouldnt walk to food for less well might be safe in the day, and the bus might go that way too..

Good luck

Looks like we will be doing this for our August trip.

Will they deliver alcoholic beverages without you being present? I wish WeGoShop had a branch in California!

I had Vons deliver to VGC in February; I actually saw the guy delivering while I was checking bags since room was not ready. I did not have to interact with him at all and I had a bottle of red wine in my order. However, when I called to have my bags and everything delivered to my room when it was ready, the bellman brought up only part of my Vons order, I think it was split between refrigerated and frozen; he only brought the frozen and had to make another trip.

We had them deliver last year to Hojo, we had beer and Capt. Morgan rum, Vons had no problem delivering to the front desk with out ever seeing me or DH.

The hotel said use vons and you only need to be there if you are ordering alcohol to prove you are 21,

Was this the Grand Cal.? I sure hope this is not the policy of the Disney property hotels. We will be checking in after the latest delivery time and had hoped bell services would recieve our delivery for us (which will include alcohol)

So good to know.
Do we call them or go online to set up this account?

Online. Go to vons.com or safeway.com (same thing) and set up your account there, and make sure you enter in the address of where you will want the groceries delivered.

Setting up and ordering online was a very simple process.

I also called and asked about some particulars: you have until midnight the night before to go online and make any last minute adjustments to your order, or to cancel. You can cancel the day of delivery, but you need to call them instead of going online. Even though they ask for payment information at checkout, they do not charge the card until the day of delivery. :goodvibes

Our delivery is all set up for next Friday at the HoJo! It seems like this will all be smooth and easy.
