Vons Grocery Delivery Question

We will be visiting Hojo this december and need groceries, have read some posts about Vons, but I am a little hesitant of trying new things.

Do they always deliver to the front desk even if you are in the room? I know some of the HOJO buildings get locked some of the time, so thought maybe they always deliver to reception since its easier than going all the way to the room.

Whats the best time to schedule? I want to get things as soon after arrival as possible, but afraid a plane delay cause mess things up. Should I expect to be in the room during the delivery window? Should I inform the hotel ahead of time? Has anyone had any issues? I will not be ordering alcohol to avoid hassles.

Hojo's is extremely accommodating to their guests who order food from Von's - I phone in advance if I think the order might possibly beat me there. They have said they would hold it until we get there,(if your room is ready they sometimes bring it up there) and if room isn't ready, they even remember to put the cold food in their own fridge! They are super to help with bringing the food up if the Von's staff has already left, and I think they all 'rock' over there. :goodvibes They care a lot about total guest experience and it shows.

SMART to not order alcohol since that could mean they wouldn't be able to sign for it. You are right- if there is no alcohol they are able to sign your order for you. Your credit card will have been pre-authorized and so Von's won't have to see it if you aren't there.

ENJOY your stay in DL @ Hojo's! :)

P.S. On our last stay, in our experience, we got a phone call from the front desk telling us Von's was there, and did they want us to have Von's come to our room with the food, or did we want to come get the food ourselves. I assume that Von's will always inform front desk first of any orders that they are delivering.

We used Von's when we were there in August, made things much easier.

Just out of curiosity, but what are you folks ordering in terms of groceries? I think my wife and I will be getting some wine to share in the evenings at our room, but we are going to try to go to Wonderland and pick it out ourselves.

Little snacks for in the park, like individual cracker packages, or cookie packs, or chip packs. Small juice boxes, bottled water, yogurt, cheese, milk, cereal, bowls, ravioli, popcorn, noodle soup for in microwave, cheese strings, etc.

We have ordered Vons to the HoJo twice now. Mostly recently over Christmas just a few weeks ago.

The time window you pick for delivery just depends on either your arrival time or a time shortly after arrival that you'll be in the room. The first time we ordered we arrived about 9 a.m. and knew we would head straight to the parks so we chose a deliv window between 4-6 p.m. and planned to be back in our room for check-in/unpacking and receiving groceries.

In Dec we had a later afternoon flight arrival.. which arrive an hour late. Our deliv window was 6-8 p.m. I did phone HoJo ahead this time and they said they would accept the delivery if we hadn't arrived yet (and we did have beer/wine in the order.) As it turned out we had a quick check-in, groceries hadn't arrived by 7 p.m. and we wanted to head to the parks. So, even though we'd arrived the front desk still said to go ahead and go to DL and they'd accept our order. As it turned out, we had a phone call from Vonns on my dh's cell about 8:10 p.m. apologizing that they were late but were holiday busy. They told us that our food would be at HoJo about 8:45. My dh told us the front desk would accept it at HoJo. The Von's employee did tell dh they are happy to work with the HoJo front desk but they won't at many area hotels.

HoJo accepted the order. Took it up to our room and put the refridgerated items in the fridge and left our other bags and receipt on the floor near the fridge. Excellent customer service from both places!

We order small boxes of cold cereal, milk, cheese of some kind, muffins & croissants, juice, jerkey, individual bags of goldfish, soda, wine, a case of water, tuna snack packs, soup at hand etc

When I talked to Hojo's front desk the day before we got there, they told me that they will sign for orders with alcohol no problem. Just that someone has to be working the front desk that is over 21, but that there is always someone around over 21 to sign. Turns out our beer was out of stock, so our order ended up not having any alcohol, so cant vouch for what wouldve happened.

I could be wrong but I think of the 3 resort hotels, the GCH is the only one accepting Von's deliveries without alcohol.

Thanks for everyone here who provided advice on the Vonn's grocery ordering. I just put my order in for delivery in the afternoon of our arrival next week. Pretty excited!
