Anyone have this service? It seems so much cheaper but I am nervous to switch. My girlfriend is looking into new and cheaper service and is considering it.

I've had it for two years now, and love it! We've had NO problems with it.

Dh and I have it for about 2 years and love it. Our phone bill through Verizon (not the wireless) was averaging about $87 per month. Now it's just $30. Big savings for us. We were also able to keep our former number.

The one big thing I like is that we have unlimited local and long distance calling. It keeps our bill at $30 per month without all of the "extra" charges that came with Verizon.

:teeth: Vonage is great. We have had it since last spring and we love it. A set amount for the bill makes budgeting so easy. No hidden charges and I love that I dont have to worry about if I have enuf minutes left on a long distance calling card to call my DD in Cali.

I had figured out all the charges that Verizon in my area charges for all the extras I get from Vonage (some of which I dont use much but they are there when I do) and the total was the same as the other poster who said $87. A savings of 57 odd dollars a month is great.

We chose to go with cable internet over DSL mainly because we already had it. The money is debited from your account/CC every month which saves me from running to the store to pay it on time.

The only disadvantages I have found is if you need to call 911 in our area they do a redirect thing to a call center then to the police/fire/etc. Seconds sometimes count in that. But not all areas are like that, we live in a podunky area so that is why. The other thing is if the power goes out or your cable/dsl go down you are without a phone. That is a rarity and has only happened once during a super bad storm--but that could happen to a landline phone too.

The hookup was easy enough that even me, the computer illiterate award winner of the century, hooked that puppy up in like 10 minutes(including the time I had to wait for it to boot up)

Try it out, if you dont like it you can always go back to your landline. Plus if you use someone you know (LIKE ONE OF US :teeth: ) that person gets perks as do you. :teeth: Hey its worth a shot, I want a free month or two.

Glad to hear good reviews. I am trying to talk DH into getting Vonage. :)
The 911 and no phone if cable goes out wouldn't be a problem for us, as we have our cell phones.
I'll have to show this thread to DH. :teeth:

Have had it for over 2 years now. I make a lot of calls to Massachusetts from here and there is no extra charge for them. My bill is around $30 a month.

Of course if you lose your internet or electricity, you lose Vonage. I'm glad we have a cell phone as backup. Other than that, I give it :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We've had it about 2 years and love it! We have our vonage set up to call my cell phone at the same time a call comes into the house, so we never have to worry about the cable being on or not. That way we never miss a call. You can also set it up to have your calls routed to only call your cell if the cable is out.

We have it and we have a landline.

I don't like it. We have satellite internet, I don't know if that is why. But I can hear echoes alot, and if the kids are are the internet , then the echoes are worse.

My husband is stubborn and still wants to disconnect Verizon, but I am not giving in either, so right now we have both.

Any long distance is done with Vonage, but my gab sessions with friends are on the landline!

We used to have it but switched back after Hurricaine Rita. You need to be aware if you loose power you loose phone service. We lost power during Rita and no phone but telephone co. never lost service so those with land lines had phone service. So we were without power or phone for a day. That's not bad but there were some people just blocks away who were with out power for a week or more-thus no phone if they were with Vonage and if you relied on cell phone for back up-what to do when the battery runs out-can't charge that if there's no power. So we switched back to a land line. Plus we'd loose service every time out puter went out which is quite often with our cable provider here in our neighborhood :sad2: .

Does your internet have to be on in order for the phones to work? Do I have to leave my computer on all the time?
