Anyone ever make penne vodka without using vodka? Recipes?

I dont think that's possible.

Otherwise it's just a Pink sauce, not a vodka sauce.

And dont forget the alcohol will cook off, so it's ok if you dont drink :)

why would you waste perfectly good vodka by putting noodles in it:sad2:

Frankiesmom - will you please send me the recipe for Vodka Sauce? I LOVE IT and don't know how to make it.

For the OP...google vodka sauce and you will find lots of recipes. The alcohol cooks off and just leaves the taste.

Here you go Judy-Enjoy;)

Penne alla Vodka
Serves 4 to 6

3 tablespoons butter
2 large garlic cloves finely chopped
2 ounces thinly sliced prosciutto, cut into thin strips
1 28-35 oz can Italian tomatoes, drained and coarsely chopped
1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup vodka
salt
1 lb. penne
1//2 cup fresh grated parmesan

In a large skillet (large enough to hold the cooked pasta) melt butter over med. heat. Add the garlic and cook till golden, about 2 minutes. Stir in the prosciutto and cook for 1 min.
Add the tomatoes and crushed red pepper and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in the cream and cook, stirring well for 1 minute.
Add the vodka and cook for 2 minutes. Season to taste with salt
Meanwhile bring 4 quarts H2O to boil; add pasta and salt to taste- cook aprox. 10 minutes.
Drain the pasta; reserving a ladle worth of pasta water.
Add pasta to skillet with the sauce and toss till well coated- add a little of the reserved cooking water if sauce seems too thick.
Add in cheese and toss again- serve immediately.

The best of both worlds? :confused3

I'll bet that seagull of yours would taste good with some vodka

It sounds good.... I LOVE sauces... I bet the vodka would make it even better :worship: :worship: :worship:

I found this: http://www.amazon.com/Scarpetta-Tuscan-Vodka-Sauce-19-8-Ounce/dp/B000F3OA7G at Sam's Club, but it's in a different container. OMG, so yummy! I make it with penne and shrimp.

It might not be as good as homemade, but it's cheaper to buy the container than it is to buy the ingredients separately if you don't have them on hand. I've also tried the different ones you can get in the grocery store -- yuck. Haven't found one that's good.
