VMK= "The Matrix"??

Ok all, i have been reading a ton of posts this last month about the impending close of VMK. i happen to be one of those ppl who always planned on vmk ending and at this point am content with where i stand with it all. of course, i do feel bad for the many friends i have that are not prepared to give vmk up so easily. i got to thinking after seeing serveral posts about how vmk is a big part of their REAL life while others throw out insults such as "get a life". this whole debate reminds me of the movie "The Matrix", in which ppl who thought they were living normally eventually find out that they are in fact living in a pixelated world. one character in particular discovers he prefers the "Matrix" over the harsh realities of the real world in which they all live, even though he knows it's not real.

Anyhow, i know it's a stretch and this is just for a debate so PLEASE don't take it as some sort of insult--but anyone else see similarities between that movie and how ppl are debating the ending of the vmk world? maybe there are other similar types of movies out there that illustrate the same theme....

There is no one behind VMK telling us what to think, what to do, etc. We are not all asleep and we are not blind to what is going on around in VMK. We are not enslaved and if we left VMK, no one was coming after us to bring us back.

And I know all about the harsh realities of the real world. VMK is where I escape from some of those realities. But, I always go back to those realities.
Nope. I've never completely melded VMK with the real world.

Well I'm completely aware that VMK is a computer world, since somebody told me that a few weeks ago. So I'm going to have to say no... but I do prefer certain parts of VMK over the real world.

lol well i didn't mean LITERALLY only metaphorically speaking...in my post i compared the one character's preference of the matrix over the real world and the poll was about some similarities with that, not whether we are living in a water tank with tubes hooked up to us, etc. lol! some players spend most of the day logged into vmk (and no, i don't lol!)...and so i make the comparison......

I think I get my friends switched up, because some of the DISers are my real friends. I'll be like i was talking to "so and so" and my friends will stop and ask "Who is that?" I just say "A friend from out of town."
It's going to be difficult letting go of VMK.
The Memories are just too real...
Maybe I am seeing the Matrix side.
Maybe I'm not.
Who knows.
