A case of VMK suicide. Yeah. Odd. Well, this is what happend. I was in Fantasyland in the Sky and this girl goes "I hat my life." and then "-falls off cloud-" she left VMK to make it "happen." I actually find it funny! I went to another version of the room, went to the end of the cloud, and said "I think I want to free fall!" and did the same thing. :lmao: I amuse myself too easily. Soo.. anyone seen suicide like that? Or anything really wierd?

First let me say that I am not trying to be judgemental, because I know how something can strike a weird funny bone at the wrong time and in the wrong way. I'm not trying to beat on SoRa DoRk, nor anyone else. But I can't in good conscience ignore this topic. I apologize if the following seems offensive, harsh or in some way takes the fun out out DIS and VMK.

---

I don't find it funny at all. Suicide just has no element of humor in it for me anymore, even in jest, because too many young people have failed to see the distinction between humor and despair, between being "bummed" and "hating their life" and wanting to find a happier place and just deciding to end it all. And then they've done just that. And I've known some of them.

In an environment like VMK, what can begin as jest can become the in thing to do, and what begins in the virtual world may cross over too easily into the real world. And I've had chats in VMK that lead me to believe that some people come here to escape the real world for less than ideal reasons. VMK is very inviting that way. No, I don't think that all the players in VMK are that easily swayed, but for those who may already be vulnerable, young or old, do we want to take the chance of being the worst kind of friend by demonstrating such behavior, even as a joke?

Thank you Charleiz (sorry if spelling is wrong) for expressing my feeling so much better than I could have.

I agree with the previous post, there is nothing funny about ending a life.

Sora, I like how you said you were "doing a free-fall". But using verbiage that the girl Sora posted about is most likely a cry for help albeit in the virtual world but nonetheless serious.

I would like to see some "woot, woots" or "this is fun" if you want to check out the cloud thing instead. Maybe "bungee!" is in the dictionary?

Have fun!

Wow, that was very well put! I agree with you 100%.

I agree with all of you for a few reasons:

With:
1
She may have been joking (although she may not have a sense of humor bc that was just not normal)

2
That was a funny way of how she did it

3
She may be going through -that time of her life- and needs to get her feelings out somewhere

Against:
1
VMK is targeted for kids 8-14, and we dont want to teach them those kinds of things

2
She did it in front of other people, she could have expressed in a empty district and do it there instead of in front of those people

3
It just sounds SO wrong (I needed a 3rd reason)

Conclusion:

The past is the past, the future is the future, everything is meant to be. Just forget about it, but if you see her do it again, you might want to ask staff to -point her in the right direction- (This way, she'll fall in the snow at the bottom of the matterhorn :lmao: )
