VMK Sponsored Quests Should not be too hard for kids

Most of my time in VMK is spent trying to get my nine year old son, the things he sees others doing. Like dive, car, and space, these were not easy quests. This new quest with such a challenge in ghosts has left me with a huge pain in the right hand and arm!

There is no way that my nine year old would have managed even one question. However, my older son won't even play on the site thinking it is "lame".

So, there seems to be a generation gap on VMK. Tweensters seem to be there for the fun, unlike us adults who take so seriously getting every item ever generated.

I would really like to thank my friends in the game who helped me and finally gave me a hat. (Probably because I was such a pain in the VMK neck) Huge thanks to Cool, MacLite, tinkertatt and countless others in the Haunted Mansion!

Good luck today!

Overall, I must say that I was not happy with the quest. Most of the answers I knew but several were about things I have never seen before. Imagine all the kids that have never seen these movies either!

While I have no problem scoring points on fireworks or jungle cruise, I know many who cannot reach those levels no matter what they try. Why make this so difficult for them? It is one per player so what gives? Yes, people will mule it but don't they anyway?

Now, as for the real problem, 50 ghosts! I am not a HM player and I could probably get that score in two rounds but it is difficult for me. But the problem was 1)trying to get into a game 2)not being sent back to the lobby before you even start 3)not being booted out by other people 4)getting people to agree to go three rounds.

I was lucky enough during the day to get into a game where we all needed to go three rounds. That was great. But when I tried to get back on for my girls, by that time, the kingdom was quite full and to even get into a game was difficult. Then I had to deal with people booting me from their games or trying to make the games lopsided so that it was one against two or three. I mean really! we are all trying to go after the same thing, why be mean about it?

I actually got into a game as my kid with another player who is on my friends list on my main account, cruiselinefan. This person begged me to be on my list about a week ago and I finally agreed to remove somebody to make room. When I entered the game with this player (playing as my daughter) I mentioned that I was on a quest and needed to go three rounds. They started the game and again I asked if it would be ok if we went three rounds. Their response: NO! Now this person had no idea who I was and I did not mention that I was actually cruiselinefan and I was appalled at the rudeness of this player. Needless to say I said a quick: Fine! Bye! and left the game right away. I then proceeded to jump on my main account and remove that player from my friend's list. I will of course let them know why if I encounter them again which I am pretty sure I will since he knows where I hang out.

The rest of the evening was pretty much the same. I was amazed at the rudeness of players and the unwillingness of many to not want to help anybody except themselves. And yes, several DISers were among the group and since they had no idea who I was, they were not that polite and I was booted out of several games.

I have NEVER booted anyone out of a HM game! I just wouldn't think of it. And with some many rooms full and it being so difficult to get into to a game, I was just surprised at the behavior I witnessed yesterday.

But on a high note, I tried to play again late last night and came across some really wonderful players who went above and beyond to help each other with these games. I was actually in one of the last games of the evening, it was a full room and we were all making sure that everybody had gotten enough ghosts for the quest. We were also making sure that everybody knew the last few answers to finish the quest because we had less than 5 mintues to go. I just wish everybody could work together like that, it sure would make these type of quests easier to handle.

I don't understand why they would make this particular task so high in amount when so many rooms get full and players have the ability to boot others. At least with pirates, you have three different levels and it is easy for people to work together to win a round.

Off my box now..........................

This quest was a mess. Brings back memories of the Halloween Event. As soon as I touched it, I said no way would I have the kids do the quest. Not ready for the tears again.

Did have a good laugh at Frontierland Dock this morning when everyone was trying to figure out what the lucky charm was. :thumbsup2 At least we had a good laugh.

As for booting in HM, I know I am one that cannot play four on four and even three on three does not work for my computer. I apologize for the boot. But until Haunted Mansion can play right for a four player game, I will need to boot. A few of us tried it for one game and the whole other side crashed. It was an effort in futility, if the goal is to move people on. I felt bad that I could not help more people out, in the end I just would jump on a game to help a few. But then I got severe quest burn out.

I just cannot help but think of the kids who did not get the hat. Then those kids who did not even get a chance to get on to even try. :sad2:

Club, you are one of the people who will explain why you boot and I can certainly understand that as many cannot handle a lot of players due to computer speeds. The ones I refer to mainly are the ones that wanted lopsided games ~ one against four or three. Ugh.

Also, if some of you are trying to help out others, I can understand that as well, but please make an effort to let those you boot know what is going on, it sure would help.

On your Frontierland Dock note: That was definitely the highlight of the quest yesterday morning! You , LittleDragonErin, SpeedyJoe, myself and several others just randomly shouting out any lucky charm we could think of was absolutely a riot and way too funny. I heard things like: potato, picture, keychain, clover, rabbits foot, stuffed dog, stuffed monkey, stuffed dead dog, shoe, hat, etc. I wonder what the people thought who were not doing the quest? Reminds me of those weird dictionary bug days when people were speaking and not making any sense. :rotfl2:

I agree, the amount of ghosts needed yesterday was ridiculous. To add to the disaster, the game was so full it took forever to get into one and by the time you did you more than likely dc'd! I know a bunch of us helped each other out and for that I am grateful, but there were also lots of us scrambling at the last minute hoping to get our hats before close! I'm almost scared to see the quest today!

I contacted VMK telling them how it was an only chance for girls to get the hat, howhard the mansion part was,and much more related things.I was lucky to have finished the quest right when vmk closed.

I can't get 50 ghosts. However, I can do most fireworks score, except 280K. ;)

Playing with strangers reminds me that people have no problem running over you to get what they want! lol Good luck everyone!

Wow how I agree with that statement. While doing the quest for the red hat it was so difficult to not only get a game started in Haunted Mansion but once you did if you had no friends playing with you when you got in the game if the players weren't happy with the teams they would bail out right away. It took me 4 tries getting the games started to actually complete a game when the other players finally stayed and finished the game.

I'm concerned with the latest VMK quest (baseball) that requires things like catching 50 ghosts. My daughter can barely play the games, much less catch this amount. (I can't catch 50 ghosts either.) I really wish they would just require you to **play** the game rather than get a certain score...that would encourate kids to try new games and just relax and enjoy themselves.

I also did a quest last night that took me an hour, so I'm just glad my daughter was asleep because she would have gotten frustrated.

I'm just not sure anymore who VMK is really for. If it's for kids to have fun, should it actually be fun? I'm finding that it's getting too competitive for me to feel comfortable having my daughter too invested in it.

Am I overreacting?

Thanks for any input!!

I agree with you on this post....... these quests are very unfair to the little vmk questers. I stink at fireworks and cant catch a ghost to save my soul, thank God for my little brother here rofl or I would not have any of these things for myself :) ...ty Scooterjake. During the last quest for the pink slipper and rocket couch, so many of our younger friends begged us to get on their account and help them out. Imagine us receiving tons of passwords and user names lol we would have been banned for 10 lifetimes! We had to flee our homeland to escape that sentence :) Poor younger ones. We were trying to get in a haunted mansion game last night to help someone and ppl were standing there telling how many hats they got and on how many accounts. No wonder the games were loaded!

Of all times for vmk to remove GR from their dictionary!! OMG I needed that word bad last night lol

Over and out...................

Thanks for the input everyone.

It's sweet of those of you who offered to help with the ghosts...but the whole point that we would need to arrange for that seems so against the idea of what VMK should be for kids. In my opinion, it should be something that kids are capable of doing on their own and have a sense of accomplishment about.

It's fine for me (as an adult) to try something fifty times, get frustrated, complain about it, decide not to do it, etc. But my seven year old is just too young to have to deal with that kind of thing. (She loves the quests where you have to find things, because she can do that. It's especially good when the time doesn't run out.)

There will always be "private" quests that are not going to be easy. But shouldn't VMK have a different standard?

Thanks for letting me vent.

totally agree with you and I think that Disney needs to take a long and hard look at how difficult these VMK sponsered events/quests are.

No not at all! And VMK claims to be for kids, I started laughing at that months ago. My son will not be able to catch 50 ghosts, and I have yet to catch 50 ghosts. Although, today I had 52 and was on the quest...well like it has been said before on here I guess they don't count when you catch your opponent who has been turned and you get double points. So needless to say I did not complete the task. :confused3 Then there's all the times you get DC or people bail out of the game, it is really frustrating. VMK really has changed alot and I know people who have said their kids have cried over some of the things they have done lately. Oh well, sorry I went on and on..I needed to vent somewhere. lol

Kids crying about quests is not my idea of DISNEY MAGIC wake up and smell the coffee VMK producers!

This will sound harsh but as much as I love this game I also feel that criticism is needed to help it grow....I know that the producers of VMK have made other Disney Childrens video games and they know what the ability of the younger VMKers is(not to mention some of us old foggies). So instead of letting their egos get in the way they need to rethink how hard they are making these tasks.

My suggestion is to have Quest levels easy, medium and difficult just like alot of video games already do if they are afraid of the game being too easy for some of the older players(which by the way-I do not think it is)or alternative tasks.

Catch 50 ghosts or play and win 5 games of pirates(just a suggestion)

I agree with you Mal, I went to the contact page and wrote to them regarding this. I really hope they listen to us!
