VMK Has Lost It's Mind!

ok well my sister some of you may know of her: MinnieMouses was just logging into vmk and the thing comes up saying she needs to change her title. now she has had this since she has joined vmk and she joined back sometime in the summer. now i see nothing wrong with her title and WE are very disappointed. Please post your comments here and i already sent a message to the Contact Us page but i doubt they will do a thing. and you can help by doing the same or finding a staff and asking what went wrong.

That's so odd. Is it a copyright thing, maybe? For example, I know someone who played a game where they couldn't use exact spellings of certain characters for handles. He's into Star Wars and wanted Lord Vader as his handle...but because of copyright, they couldn't let him have it. So he chose Lord Vadur instead which they allowed him to have. That's the only thing I can think of...and being that I don't know the name of every last player, I'm not sure how relevant it is to this.

BUT, if her name was approved that long ago, then why are they just now saying she has to change it? That's not right. Being that THEY are the ones who approved her name, they should not make her change it.

VMK_Annie used to be VMK_Bambi. She had to change it because it was a Disney character name.

If that is the case, maybe they should have thought of that before!!! This is a Disney game, how many people do you think are going to pick Disney character's names!? The majority of players on VMK are total Disney fans and so obviously some are going to want Disney titles. That can't possibly be the case as I would think VMK would have more sense than that. lol. Unless, they plan on changing many many titles.

My DD's old title was FunkyMonkey-Bobby ...I am guessing that if it wasn't the hyphen in her title, that she had to change her name because of copyright issues (clothing line). This surely narrows things down a bit! I hope they really meant it when they recently approved her new title, Mickeys Music.

VMK used to not allow anything with a state name or abbrieviation. When I first joined VMK, back in June or July, they wouldn't approve Califgirl for my name. But I have seen CaliforniaDreamin and a CaliforniaGirl. (as well as CL_FloridaOranges) And AZCat had to change his title. (and as far as I know, he doesn't even live in AZ!)

They also didn't like anything that aluded to age. Chicky's Mom had to change her title, but I have seen several men with Dad or Pop in theirs.

So, go figure. VMK is nothing if not inconsistent.

Gosh how many name changes I had.. First it was Zainab then Stealina and then finally VMK accepted Marina which I am today. Odd I didnt see MinnieMouses or my other names to be bad in any way.

I wonder if they are planning to have characters roaming VMK and felt it would be too confusing. Of course it could be random too. As far as the state thing one of my lesser used characters is MNIce and they approved it. At least that one is no big deal if they do change it lol

My son was BabyMckey for quite some time- and around the time they had all the "moms" change their titles he had to change his- he is now MckeyJoe...

And I remember trying forever to get a name for my main character- I think they turned down like 12 attempts- before I got frustrated and said I just need a name to represent the virtual me... and so ended up with virtuallyme

Hey - I am sorry for your sister. I had to change my first name too. It used to be "tolkienseven." I assume that I had to change because of the number in my name. Changing to DocHT was actually better, because by the time it took people to type out my old title, I was gone! Now people can call me Doc, so it works out well AND I get to be one of the seven dwarfs! Maybe your sister will grow attached to her new name and even like it better.

Yeah they made me change my name also, this was last month. I couldn't figure a reason either. My name Used to be MKOATEYW, they approved my name last year on July 17th (yeah I remember the exact day I signed up and got approved. That does't make me a crazy VMk addict does it??? ) I even signed up here on the DIS as the same so it would match, Maybe that is why they made me change it? so now I am EYWPRINCESS. Will see how long that lasts.

If that's the case, that wouldn't be right of them at all. It's one thing for them to monitor VMK for giving out personal info, quite another to give out consequences because a player chose to give their info outside of VMK. It wouldn't surprise me if that's something they did, but that would really upset me.

I can almost see making MinnieMouses change - but my friend was TIGER_xxxx and they made her change it to TIGGER - seems backwards and unnecessary.

But so is selectively watching convos and banning for no reason while others are giving out their personal information and get no warnings.

My daughter had to change her title the other day. It was GreenDayBabe and she changed it to Skittlezs. She had the GreenDayBabe title since Day1.

What if they find out that I used my kitten's name for my VMK name? They will probably think that I am giving out way too much information and that people can find me and kidnap me once they figure out that my cat's name if Emma!

I think that this is insane! They should not be asking people to change their names, which they have had for a long time, for strange reasons! Asking people who names are like character's names is one thing, but asking people to change their names that have nothing to do with Disney that have already been approved it just wrong! Do they think there is some hidden meaning to all of these names that 8-12 year olds (which to them, are the people playing this game) are going to figure out and learn about bad things? They shouldn't even have asked people who had names like Disney characters to change their names. They already approved it and they just can't change their mind!

What if your parents one day decided that they didn't like your name anymore and asked you to change it?!?!?! It's the same situation! People get attached to their names, and that's what other people in the game know them as. Once a person has to go and change their name, people might forget who he/she is, and people may not recognize him/her anymore. I know I would hate to lose my name because that's how people know me and recognize me.

That's my 2 cents.

I have not figured out where they want to be with the name changes.

Some are more obvious. I registered as MommyKate back in the beta days, a name that was accepted, but then much later, rejected. My guess..the Mommy-Daddy-Baby thing that started happening, or just because it identified me as being a Mom. Chickysmom was a victim of this too.
When I was told I had to change my name, I tried for DisneyKate..that was rejected IMMEDIATELY, there was no submit now and wait a few days to find out I couldn't use it. They said NO right away! My guess?.. they didn't want other players to think I was any part of the Disney company?? I dunno!
However, by spelling Disney wrong, the name DizneyKate was approved. Surely nobody within the company would spell Disney wrong! LOL

I have seen others have to change their name because of location, such as, already mentioned..AZCat. (And No, he doesn't live in AZ).

Some names were suspected of having to be changed because of having dots or lines in them.

Like I said..I have not been able to figure it out.

I would probably put your sister in the first catagory though, they wouldn't want anyone to think she was the not so 'real' Minnie Mouse!
