VMK chat filter?

I've heard that VMK has a very restrictive filter in which only certain words can be used. This seems very out-of-the-ordinary, but VMK isn't the online game to have used such a system.

On November 14, 2001, a similar chat filter was used on the MMORPG RuneScape, and people complained en masse. It was removed the next day.

Howver, I've never seen VMK players complain about this. Is there an unofficial way of communication? Or are VMK players simply used to this filter?

There have been frustrations over the dictionary, at times. However, we all understand that the restrictions are necessary, considering that VMKs target audience is about 8-14 years old. It's all for their safety. "Dictionary dancing" does happen but it's frowned upon by the powers that be. LOL!

I agree with what Diva said.

It is extremely frustrating, but the time I find it the absolute most annoying is when I need to use call for help and I cannot say what I really need to say.

I also don't like all the "baby talk" in the Dis. (poor grammar based on restricted words, not calling people baby)

Dictionary restrictions can also be annoying when you get the red flash for using a word more than 2 times. That is ridiculous.

Or you cannot say "play one on one". (or on on on for that matter) I understand the restriction of number words, but I would prefer that VMK allow us to talk like normal folk and warn/ban those who are abusing the words.

Its different in that from its conception it was to be chat friendly to the youngest of children. Its always been there and always will be.

I believe they do that because people could tell you your age. It's not safe since it is aimed at younger children like me. There are some kids out there who tell their street address to people on Runescape and their age. Trust me, I was in Falabor town once and there was someone giving their phone number to someone to call them. Not Safe! (Not sure on the name Falabor. Might be from Runescape or the Pokemon game I used to play 5 years ago That got boring fast. The town im talking about is the one with the White Nights and the garden)

Players use these as a substitute since the actual words are not allowed for safety reason. Yes, you could use the substitute words that we all learn very fast, but the idea is to prevent that.

Additionally, this is why everything we say is monitored, tracked, and recorded. This is also why we cannot use a word 3x in the same sentence or message.

There are always ways to get around rules and safety measures that are put in place to protect ppl from others. I suppose it then is up to the individuals taking some responsibility for their own well-being as well.

Well everything has a reason, There just trying make the enviroment safe. I still wish that you can say numbers like bowlermaniac said.
