VMAs

I don't call people names, but the reason it's worse is because twice as many people exercised bad judgement.
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you did call people names. However, the "skank/trash" sentiment has been shared by more than one poster on the thread. Thanks for the clarification :).

That one is beautiful. :thumbsup2 Very happy to see it again. Interesting choice on all the Van Goghs you had to choose from.

I haven't read the entire thread.

But I hate those words for women used by women. Just HATE them. They actually don't exist for me, and I don't mean that in a *I'm so above* way or *I don't judge ever* way - I really can't explain well right now. I just hate them.

I did think it seemed very awkward all around. Very.

And I thought Will Smith's family's reaction was hysterical as well. :thumbsup2

I'm more outraged that blatantly he rip offed Marvin Gaye's Got To Give It Up.

I've been seeing a lot of controversy about that on TV. He denies ripping the song off, then reportedly offered Marvin Gaye's family a settlement amount in the six figures which they then turned down. If he didn't rip the song off why is he offering them a six figure settlement?

I do as well. No matter how much I think what Miley did was in poor taste, I won't call her names. She's a human who made a very bad decision. One that she will have to live with and reflect upon for years.

Ehh, I can grab a piece of paper and slap some paint on it and call it art, but it doesn't make me an artist...

Art is usually an expression of creative imagination in some form. That wasn't creative or imaginative. Fabulous foam finger, teddy bears, tongues and gyrations aside, none of it looked planned, imagined or created. And no, you can't convince me that part of her "art" was making it look that it wasn't planned or created. So.. ehh, art? Not so much, but there ARE other words for it LOL!

That said, I wasn't offended or horrified, I was just :rolleyes2:rolleyes2:rolleyes2

I specifically DIDN'T mention Miley because that was a hot mess. The poster I replied to said that NOTHING on the VMAs qualified as art. Miley may not...I'll give on that but to say Justin Timberlake or Jennifer Hudson or countless other performers aren't artists because you don't like it...I just don't agree.

There were plenty of artists there.

With the saturation of auto tune these days, I'd say most "singers" are as much "artists" as I would be if I did a paint by numbers kit. That would not make me Van Gogh.

Exactly. Musicians are artists, but I see so few musicians these days. Dancing around half naked with a microphone does not make you a singer, much less a musician. There are only about a handful of "pop singers" that I would call singers, the rest are entertainers. And if that is their goal, to entertain, and people like it, that is great. But let's not pretend like they are singers.

Well then, I need to find you when I feel so alone ;) on the Community Board. :lmao: ;);)

FWIW, I used the word "skank" in an ironic way because I thought that Thicke acted as dreadfully as Miley and Miley was the only one getting the *insert bad name here* heat for it.

I disagree. He was fully dressed. he wasn't simulating masturbating onstage with a giant foam finger. That was all Miley.

The first time I heard "Blurred Lines" I was stunned at what a blatant rip off it was of "Got To Give It Up." On so many levels at that......not just a short string of notes. The style, the notes, the falsetto, party/club sounds, the same instruments making the same notes. The reason Blurred Lines is so catchy is that GTGIU is a great song. There is some youtube posting in which someone has blended the songs to show the.....similarities.

Ironically, that's the one that popped up on my search. :confused3

That was by far the best thing that came out of the performance.

I consider her handlers and parents partly to blame for this. Someone on her "team"should have had the foresight to discourage her ideas for this show. And there was her mother standing up and clapping afterwards! She is a 20 year old who has lead a sheltered life in many respects and has been constantly applauded and praised for everything she has done. I'd say she expected the same for this performance.

He is not innocent. He was fully clothed (in a position of power to Miley's virtual nakedness) and he allowed himself to be touched by the giant foam finger. According to reports they rehearsed the performance:

Sources close to Robin's wife Paula Patton tell us she was all good with Miley touching Robin's crotch and kissing his neck during MTV's Video Music Awards ... despite reports that she went ballistic following the performance.

We're told Paula knew the performance wasn't gonna be G-Rated because there were "tons of rehearsals" before the show ... and there were no surprises during the performance.

Lord only knows where that foam finger has been...............

He is far from innocent, but what exactly was he supposed to do on a stage in front of thousands of people if he didn't know?

If Miley's performance had not been so over the top and ridiculous, his performance would have hardly raised an eyebrow. She is the one that acted like a skank (and notice, I am not calling her a skank but saying that her behavior is skanky). In a position of power? She chose to be dressed that way. He wasn't acting in anyway as though he had power over her.

And, for me, its not just the things she did. She looks ridiculous trying to dance at all. She is awkward and looks horrible up there. Its so bad it really does look like she is trying to make a joke of herself. She cannot possibly be dancing in front of other professionals and they are honestly saying "yes, Miley, good job".
