Vittles A Go-Go: Hicks on Holiday - Update 2/14/09, pg 18 COMPLETE!

I'm still enjoying your reviews!

I like Sunshine Seasons and we hope to eat there next week. The trick is catching timing the meal for when it isn't so crowded, but the food is good (I've never had the Chinese) and I like the variety. I agree that the desserts are great!

Your Chef Mickey's pix are fun! My ds is All About The Food, too. :thumbsup2 His first question of the day is usually "Where are we eating?" instead of "What are we doing?" :rotfl:

Thanks for the reviews!

Lovely reviews, thanks for sharing. We like Sunshine Seasons, though I have never seen the food selection as I am always in charge of scouting for a table whilst my hubby gets the food! We are looking forward to trying Chef Mickey's next year.

Laur's princess:

MOM, I love that song! I used to sing it to my kids while dancing around the house with them. They refuse to do it anymore. :confused3

DisneyGirl looks just as I remember.

Buffets are made for families. If only all of life could be a buffet. Choices, we need choices. :cool1:

Hey Kelly! How's it going? Did you do school all summer, or are you just starting up again?
I haven't been to our other hang-out too much, so I'm out of the loop again.
Hope all is well!

Thanks! Hey, your baby is almost here!
Congrats and Enjoy! [I'm missing that newborn smell. Sigh]

Thanks for reading everyone!

hiya DisneyMom56789.... ;)

Just wanted you to know that I'm still lurking and enjoying your reviews. It's hard to write these darn things, is it not? :lmao:

Hello darling! Are you packed yet? :lmao:
I tend to pack, oh, 3 or 4 months in advance, so that's not out of the realm of possibility.

Also - I was trying to pace my trip report, but as it has taken almost a year to get to day 4 of our 10 day visit, I may just scurry ahead on the old food report and try to pick up the pace on the trip report. LOL

Wow was I shocked when I realized that it has taken me three months to do ONE day on my trip report. Bad Sarah!

So my apologies again for being soooo slow, and I am hoping to pick up the pace. :thumbsup2

[I must admit, the hardest part is relying on DisneyGirl for the brain cells. I didn't take enough notes, and, once again, can't remember much. Sigh.]

Hoping to update later today!!!

Biergarten
Germany Pavillion - Epcot
Sept. 23, 2007

You may notice I am missing a meal or two.
I do believe that after Chef Mickey's,
we went to the Pop Century food court.
I can't find my notes, and I know it wasn't too exciting,
so I'll skip that for now.

And now that I have this review done,
I realized I also forgot Pizza Planet.

But, never fear, I will do the PPlanet report,
even if it is out of order.

So, on to Biergarten!

We were going to spend the day at MGM,
and then hop over to Epcot for a 4 pm dinner ADR at Biergarten.

If you have been following my report since the beginning,
you know that I have felt trepidation over this ADR.

I have heard sooooo many mixed reviews,
was worried about the group seating,
and all around just not sure.

And, on a funny note...
When I was growing up,
my grandparents had a neighbor who was a bachelor farmer,
and also a bit of a drinker.
He spent a lot of time down at the bar.
But I never once heard my grandparents say that.
They always said, "There goes Pete, off to the Biergarten." :lmao:

So they'd probably be shocked and appalled that we were taking my Mom
AND my kids to the Biergarten. :scared1:

We left MGM after waiting a bit for a bus.
This was making me nervous!
We had time to get to our ADR, but not A LOT of time,
and we still needed to get all the way back to Germany from the front of the park!

As we stood at the bus stop at MGM, it started to rain.
By the time we got to Epcot, it was really coming down.

That meant that we had to slog all the way back to Germany in a steady downpour.
It was another “Just Keep Swimming” moment, only almost literally this time! One foot in front of the other, we slowly made our way back.

Here is actually documentation of the event:

IM000081.jpg

When we arrived at Biergarten and checked in, we were fine for time.
What a relief!

IMG_0465.jpg

Let me just say the the waiting area at Biergarten
leaves MUCH to be desired.
Strollers are parked everywhere, people trying to stay dry.
I wish I had taken a picture.

We finally snagged one of the tables outside there
(I believe they belong to the CS restaurant,
so apologies if we took your table,
but it was necessary in the interest of crowd control!
There wasn’t anyone standing around looking for one,
so I don’t feel so bad.)

They FINALLY called our name after a bit of a wait.
I was kind of worried that we would all be freezing
after being so soaking wet, but it actually was not bad at all.

We were seated at a table for ten, which was great.
I think it did help to have an early seating.

Smaller groups definitely run into the possibility
of being at a table with other people,
which would be kind of weird,
but not the worst thing ever.

Babycakes liked the shiny table:

IM000085a.jpg

We were seated on the upper tier.
There are also tables down on the floor by the stage.

Our servers were excellent, very attentive and friendly.
The decor here is awesome.

IM000086.jpg

It was hard to take decent pics, as it is supposed to be night time,
so it's very dark in there.

You are supposed to believe that you are outside in a German village,
under the stars,
with the October leaves changing,
and the water wheel turning.

You are celebrating Octoberfest with a few hundred of your closest friends.

The servers pointed out the flags of all the German...provinces? States?

IM000085-1.jpg

And then explained the buffet.

We were really pleased with the selection here.
Mom and I love German food, as we were both raised on it,
and there was still enough basic and just plain good food
that everyone was satisfied.

Potato soup and an assortment of things:

IM000089-1.jpg

Sausage, salad, pretzel bread, and regular bread:

IM000090-1.jpg

John was extremely well pleased with his Beeeeeeer Flight.

IM000087-1.jpg

He also was pleased with all the meat and potatoes.
And yes, that's a Diet Coke on the side. :thumbsup2

The entertainment soon started, and we really enjoyed it!
The band members sang, played their instruments, played the cowbells(!),
and the alpinehorn (I think it’s called something like that)
- which of course is the horn from the Ricola commercial.

It was really fun. Several couples got up and danced.

I can remember several weddings from my childhood that had polka music,
and it was a lot like that.

It was totally a German party,
and my mom and I understand German parties!

Mom seemed really comfortable here.

I think it was that it was familiar,
but it also may have been because of this:

IM000088-1.jpg

Yup, that's mom's beer. She enjoyed it! :thumbsup2

[You can also see a lemonade in the backgroud.
Their glass mugs were really cool.]

We had joked that it's a good thing we had a double stroller
in case we had to "help" Mom and John back to the buses.

No, never fear, there is no drunkeness in the Hick's reports.
Mom and John can hold their likker.

:lmao:

Mom kept teasing DisneyGirl that the waiter was fond of her.
(He was kind of handsome.)

He was also a good waiter, keeping our drinks filled and clearing plates.

We did check out the bathrooms here, (when do we not?)
and they were very nice.

All in all, I was sooooooo glad I made this ADR.
We are even hoping to go back next time.

So if you want basic good food, with a German twist,
in a German party atmosphere,
check out Biergarten!

I like the Biergarten, it takes you a bit away from it all, is dark enough that my looks improve, a plenitude of food which makes my dh a happy man and I get a chance to meet some interesting people. Only had one bad experience but that might have been because they did not speak English and I speak nothing else, and lots of it too! :lmao: They also did not speak the language of smiles though. :confused3

I doubt that there is room at one of your tables for a 'stranger' not that they would remain such for long. :lovestruc

One day to go! All prayers for Friday evening when I am going through Atlanta gratefully accepted.

Who wouldn't be nice to you!?! :confused3

If no one goes with us next time, there could be room for one more! :goodvibes Come on along!

Oh, Linda, I will pray! We feel your pain, there is NO good time to go through Atlanta. Are you stopping for the night after that?

Have a safe trip!

I hope it is someone like me and not the woman I spoke to yesterday joining you all at your table.

Demented, she is. She is 80 some but still no excuse. She has no family except for two nieces and she is highly perturbed at them both. Seems one is adopting a baby from Africa and the other is pregnant with complications. She believes that if God wanted them to have children He would have given them without complications and that they are both going against His will. She tells them this. She says she feels unloved by them. Go figure!! Attempting to get her to see otherwise was futile and and a monumental waste of my time.

I am thankful that she was not blessed with a poor child.

SG/back to work

That's sad.
:sad1:
I'm pretty sure someone like that doesn't travel to wdw, so we both should be pretty safe down there from people like her! :thumbsup2

Hoping you only find happy shiny people down in WDW! :wizard:

Thanks! Hey, your baby is almost here!
Congrats and Enjoy! [I'm missing that newborn smell. Sigh]

I know, I can't believe it, I'm so excited! I finish work this week, hoping bump will let me have a little time with my feet up before making an entrance!

Laur's x

arieljasmine, if I were you I might want to reconsider that statement. I believe you might be wanting that beautiful bump to be making an EXIT instead of an entrance. I hope you have an easy time of it so that you can fully enjoy this great adventure.

MOM, that lady wanted to come with me but I have gotten older, smarter and not nearly as nice as I used to be so it was not even in the cards. I am getting pickier as I get older. She is just someone I have to see for a few minutes each week, no one I have to deal with much, nor care to.

My first was 10 days over due. Oy.

It definately is a wise thing to pick and choose who you travel with. :wizard:

My first one was THREE weeks overdue and weighed nearly 11 pounds! I win.:cheer2:

Slightly Goofy/aptly named

Slightly Goofy/aptly named

:lmao:

My first, the overdue one, was a dainty 8 lb 10 oz. Her first sister was relatively on time, and 10 lb. 12 oz.

Her third brother was 3 1/2 weeks EARLY, and weighed 9 lb 7 oz. Guestimating that his birth weight would have been AT LEAST 10 lb, 15 oz at his birthdate. And 21 oz more than that had he gone THREE weeks over.

Ok, since that is all theoretical, you still win. But I'm claiming silver.

Do I get any credit for having both my 10 lb 12 oz, and my 10 lb. 9 oz without any drugs or surgery???

MOM, you win silver AND credit for no drugs IF I win a special award for being so young and dumb I thought babies came out of your bellybutton, when I was in labor. :scared1:

SG

Thanks, guys, I am hoping this little one mght be a little smaller than that :scared1: I will be sure to post and let you know when bump arrives :goodvibes

I'm sure yours will be a very obedient baby and weigh in around a tidy 7 lbs. :thumbsup2

The Lost Food Report - "Pizza Planet Pleases"
Sept. '07

Yes, I’m still here. I haven’t fallen off the face of the Earth.

DisneyGirl and I were bored this morning as the guys are out shopping
with some friends at Gander Mountain (Testosterone city!)
so we decided to update our reports.

We’ll see how far we get!

As I mentioned at the end of the last report (Biergarten)
I had forgotten to talk about our lunch that day.

And,
as it was a very successful trip to a restaurant that doesn’t always get rave reviews,
I thought I had better back track and talk about it.

That morning we were at the theme park formerly known as MGM.

We had decided in advance to try out Pizza Planet. Why?

1) we had tried enough fancy food to want a simple pizza

2) they serve Gluten Free pizza here, which is a plus for Danger Boy and Bitsy

3) they do not (or did not at the time) differentiate between
child CS credits and adult CS credits, making it easier to order!

We must have been there pretty soon after they opened,
as I know we wanted to eat early in anticipation of our early dinner ADR.

IM000040.jpg

The line was pretty light, and is set up to move quickly.

There are choices that include pizza only,
a combo meal with pizza and salad, and salads.

We started to order a bunch of combo meals
when I realized that we didn’t need that many salads.

So I got a few combo meals and a few solo pizzas for the 10 of us.

Desserts were cookies and rice krispie treats.

I personally ordered a main course salad,
which was good, but after seeing the pizza,
I kind of wished I had ordered one!

The person at the counter informed us it would be a few minutes
until our GF pizza would be done (the two kids were going to share)
and offered to find us and bring our entire order at once!

We said we would be sitting upstairs, and thanked them.

Pizza planet has an elevator which is handy with a bunch of little ones.

It is nice to sit upstairs away from the noise of the arcade.

In only a few minutes, our order arrived.

The pizza was good, and did not taste like frozen pizza.

IM000044.jpg

IM000047-1.jpg

IM000048-1.jpg

The GF pizza was Amy’s brand, which is a frozen brand,
but it was well cooked and the two GF kids had NO complaints!

The salads were fresh and tasty.
There was a choice of dressings at the condiment bar.

My salad came with a vinaigrette, as it was an Italian salad.
We actually had WAAAAY too much food here,
as the personal pizzas were a decent size.
I think we managed to eat it all, though! LOL

So...contrary to what seems to be popular opinion around the DIS,
we really liked Pizza Planet,
loved the GF option,
found all the food to be tasty,
and were pleased with the ease of ordering.
If you have hungry kids who prefer their usual food,
OR are tired of foofy food, it is a good choice.
