I have vitiligo all over my skin. I know there is others of you out there, because I remember a thread about it a while back.

I have been doing some research on the internet, and apparently now there are a few things you can do to treat it. There are pills, drops, or lotions you can use.

What I want to know is--have any of you ever tried the treatment? Or know of anyone who has? Was it successful? Any side effects?

Thanks!!

Just bumping.....My best friend since high school has Vitiligo, so I'd love to hear any new developments!

Thanks for the bump! :teeth:

My dad has this, got it about 5 years ago (45 at the time). He was using a steroid cream, but it was pretty expensive and there was no change.

He hasn't looked into any other treatments and has kind of come to terms with it (he calls himself the calico cat, had to find a way to laugh things off when people seem hesitant to shake his hand, ect.)

I would be interested in hearing what you have found or is new. The dermatoligist mentioned something about UV therapy, but my dad works and owns his own business and didnt feel he would have the time to go 3 times a week thirty minutes away from home.

I just googled Vitiligo and a few ads came up. They claimed to clear up the white patches in 4 monthes max. Some were creams, some were herbal tablets.
Whether or not they really work is the question!!

I got my first spot when I was 2, and it spreads every year. I don't have any on my face yet, so I am thankful for that. But my arms, legs and torso are covered. My hands are also getting bad. I have also just come to terms with it, but every now and then (especially in the summer when I get tanned and the spots just seem to shine so brightly) I wish I could get rid of it.

When I was a teen, I tried a cream, but it didn't work.
The doctor then also said I could go in for radioactive treatments, but would then likely get skin cancer. Then he said, but that is easier to cure, you just would have to have chemo. No thanks!!

Anyone else?

You could do what Michael Jackson did. You could die your skin to match the white patches...

I've got it on my hands and a couple of other spots. I've had it for about 20 years. It has gotten worse over the years but it's not that bad for me.

I hope you find something that'll help you.

I'm sure this has been thought of and it is not a long term solution, but I dated a boy who had it in high school and college and he used sunless tanner which worked well short term. He had it on his hands and arms and was VERY self-conscious about it (so much so he would not wear anything but long sleeves.) With the self tanner he felt confident enough to wear short sleeves.

My husband has vitiligo. Selfishly, I adore the way it looks on him. But, I know he is self-conscious about it, so I was hoping to find a remedy in this thread. His has just started spreading at the corners of his mouth and right under his eyes, and he's getting depressed about it.

He said that he's had it since childhood, and his doctor back then told him it was caused by a vitamin deficiency? :confused3 If that's the case, it seems that vitamins would stop it from spreading. Not so in hubby's case. They have possibly slowed the progression of it, though.

It runs in my family. My mom and uncle have it, and developed it as they aged. I keep looking for signs on myself, and luckily have not found any, yet. I am curious to see what people come up with, here.

I had a co worker who had it. She tried the creams, which didn't work. She tried something else, I think it was maybe the UV therapy and that didn't work for her either.

I have used the self-tanner before, but I am not very good at applying it and have more spots everywhere! :rotfl:
Maybe will try again this summer, thanks for reminding me about that option. :)
