I am planning a trip to OKW in the fall. I have a group of friends that are planning a trip at the same time to attend a wedding. They will be staying at Pop. We would like to have them come visit us at OKW for a BBQ and afternoon lounging at the pool. There will be 8 people coming to visit. First...is this even possible? Second...do i meet them at the gate? give the name to the front desk or security booth?

Thanks for the help,
Cindy

When they arrive, they should say who they are going to visit, and if you have told them your unit number, the guard will direct them to your building. We had guests meet us for dinner at Olivias last week, and they were treated royally!

However, it seems inappropriate to use the resort's pool facilities with your guests unless you are below your room occupancy level by 8 or more people.

There is no official policy for this situation that I am aware of and it seems to be handled differently each time one asks. If you are within the occupancy of your unit, you could just list them and it'd not be an issue. Since it sounds like you'd be over, just contact the desk with their names and ask. Get and record the name of who you speak with. As long as the facilities are not crowded, I doubt it would be an issue. However, it would be inappropriate to crowd those areas with non guest negatively affecting the experience of others.

If they are all staying at Pop Century, why don't you just join them over there? If you are a DVC member, you can pool hop over to their pool.

The reason we want them to come visit us is that we will have the kitchen facilities which will be helpful when preparing food for the cookout.

Does anyone know if Pop has grills? I thought it was only the DVC resorts, but I could be wrong.

I don't see any reason to worry about having them over. We have stayed numerous times at OKW and the quiet pools have never been crowded and they are WDW guests anyhow.

I understand the use of the pools is for DVC guests only, but why couldn't the group of friends just take a bus to OKW for a visit? As long as a visitor is with a DVC member staying at the resort, I don't see what the problem would be.

We just returned form OKW. My friend from Gainsville drove down to see us for the day and had no problem coming to visit. She just needed The name the reservation was under and the room number to get past the front gate. Your guests are going to be at Disney anyway so I would think taking the bus over would be easiest. I think as long as they are not staying over night you should have no problem. When I called to inform the front desk of my friends arrival they did not seem to care at all.

I didn't know you could pool hop if you were a DVC member. That's great. We will be at OKW in May and I'd like my daughter to try the slide at Beach Club. :cool1:

Sad to say, Stormalong Bay is one of the few places you can NOT Pool hop to, I think the Grand Floridian pool is another????

The other "no pool hopping" spot is Animal Kingdom Lodge in addition to Stormalong Bay. GF is OK as far as I know, as long as pool hopping is being allowed at that time of year.

So if we're staying at OKW but our daughter wants to swim at the volcano pool at the polynesian or CSR she can? I thought I've always read that pool hopping was a big NO-NO!!

PH is ok for members staying at DVC resorts on points. The BC pools are excluded as is AKL. You are required to call ahead to check availability and they can ask you to leave at any time if the pool is crowded.

For anyone that is interested, I contacted Member Services to find out the answer to my question...here is my email and the response:

I will be staying at OKW in October 2006 and have friends (non DVC members) that will also be visiting WDW at the same time, but staying at Pop Century. We would like to invite our friends to our "home" for a BBQ at the outdoor cooking facilities located near the pools at OKW. Is this
possible or is it considered 'pool-hopping' which is not allowed for non-DVC
members? If it is possible do I need to notify the front desk or guard station?

Thank you,
Cindy

MEMBER SERVICES ANSWER...
Dear Cindy,

If you wish to have visitors during your stay, they will need to check-in at the Security Gate at Disney's Old Key West Resort. If possible, please give them your room number and name for verification. As your guests when accompanied by you, they can enjoy the pool and other facilities.

Have a Magical day!
