We're going to be at WDW for a day pre-cruise. After the cruise will be our first trip to AKV as new owners. We'd like to drive around and visit some of the DVC resorts, particularly BCV, BWV, SSR, and OKW. Any suggestions? We've never been to any of them. Where do we find maps to find our way around? I was thinking we'd like to eat lunch on the Boardwalk, or maybe at Beaches and Cream. Other than that, I have no idea where to begin or what to expect if we park and just walk up? If we are members who are just visiting the resorts can we walk inside the community hall, etc. ?

We're thinking of a split stay in 2010, and so want to know what our second resort should be!

Thanks for any suggestions.

You are more than welcome to visit, if you are driving you will need to stop at the gate and let them know you are visiting to check out the resort for a future visit. You can not use the pool at BC but other than that I can nto think of anything else you can not check out.

Here are maps for OKW and BC.

If you have not stayed at WL before you might want to a VWL to your list.

You can visit Community Halls at any DVC resort (OKW,SSR,BLT,AKV & BWV have CHs) there are free walk-in activities for kids ie coloring, crafts, video & table games but some activities require pre-registration & may have a fee; you can call them day before you plan to visit to find out if there is anything special that would require registration ( ie SSR has flower arranging & ceramics that adults can participate in). You can pool hop to any DVC resort and any other onsite WDW resorts unless it is during a blocked out date or if it is restricted - - as Bookwormde said not at BCV and that also includes pools at BC & YC resorts - - you have to be staying at BCV to use these pools
( same for BLT pool and AKV's pools - no hopping to these either; must be staying there on points to use pools ).

ETA - most Wednesday's at 4pm at Atlantic Dance Hall at Boardwalk there's DVC's Welcome Home Wednedsay - DVC info, trivia game with DVC items as prizes ie baseball cap, visor etc. There's DVC model(s) at BWV & SSR you may want to visit. Some nights BCV has movie & campfire on beach; SSR does movie nights at High Rock Springs pool, WL/VWL has guided lodge tour ( usually in a.m. ) & check out allears.net for menus to help decide if you'd like to dine / snack at DVC resorts you'll visit ( don't miss Boardwalk Bakery :-) !!

All Disney resorts, including DVC resorts are open to the public, so look around to your heart's content! You can shop, dine, and use recreational facilities, including the pools. There's just one exception; the pools at BCV, AKV, and BLT are only for use by guests of those resorts.

When you get to the guard house at the entry to each resort, just tell the guard that you'd like to explore the resort and they'll wave you on through. They may ask for a photo ID; they may give you a 3-hour parking pass at resorts that are close to theme parks.

Enjoy! The resorts are great fun to explore.
