(Yes, it is actually spelled Plimoth! I did a report on it in grade school and I had to prove to the teacher that I had spelled it correctly!)
Which do you think would be more enjoyable for a 12 year old and a 10 year old? I have been to both, but it was way back when I was in elementary school so I'm sure things have changed considerably! I realize they aren't located near one another, but we could get to either one from where we are going.
Thanks for any tips!!

OH my gosh... I lived in Plymouth from ages 11 'til 19, and Plimoth Plantation never really got old for me. I think the thing I loved the most about it was walking through the village and being able to see the ocean in the distance. :lovestruc

I can't really compare the two, because the last time I went to Sturbridge was when I was a pre-teen... I always enjoyed the whole historical Plymouth experience, though you might find Plymouth Rock to be a bit disappointing ;)

If you had to choose one, I'd choose Plymouth. You have the Plimouth Plantation, there's a museum, there's "the rock", and there's the re-creation of the Mayflower which (for a small fee) you can board and explore. The Mayflower II was built from the exact blue prints as the original Mayflower, and was built in England and sailed across the Atlantic, just like the original.

I love taking visiting relatives to Plymouth, you'll have a great time!

Go to Plymouth and then you could stay here:

We have been to their sister resort, The Cape Codder in Hyannis a couple of times and have had a lot of fun.

Old Sturbridge Village is really cool too - I was a chaperon for my dd's 3rd grade class field trip last year and the kids really enjoyed it.

My 4, 7, 8 and 12 year olds loved Plimouth Plantation. we went two years ago this time. My son had studied all about the Pilgrims, etc. and wanted to go. It was really cold the day we went but it was a really nice time. The people working there act like they are from the 1600s. It is neat for th kids.

My kids also like Sturbridge. THey have a lot to see and do as well. I would say pick Plimouth and go to Sturbridge another time.

Honestly, neither. I'd rather go on a whale watch, but that's me.

Okay I am going to throw this into the mix. Go to Plimoth then to Sturbridge and then to the mills in Lowell. I have taken an couple of courses at the mill which encompassed Plimoth and Sturbridge too. Then you can see the progression from farm to factory.

If you do go to Sturbridge be sure to sign up to do hearth cooking. It is pricey but you have no idea how much fun and the food is unbelievable. I did it and I figured it would be like bbq chicken and marshmallows LOL. Trust me, we had onion soup, fresh biscuits, straberry short cake, and salad(salat) all prepared by us and then served in the education center.

In Lowell you can weave and spin and learn about the children who lived and died in the mills and boarding houses.

My vote goes to Plimoth Plantation.. I took my children there at all ages and they loved it.. Returned there with my adult DD in 1995 and she still loved it.. I would go once a year if I could!

I'm hoping to take my DGD there this fall and I'm sure she'll love it.. (She'll be 11 then and is very interested in "old" stuff and educational stuff..)

It's amazing how they pull that off over there.. I have tried every which way to Tuesday to "trick" them out of character and into the "present" and it just can't be done!! :rotfl:

Thinking like a 10/12 yo ...

Plimoth Plantation is near water. Ocean = cool things to do.

Sturbridge Village is near 6 flags :woohoo:

I'd go with Plimoth Plantation - it's smaller, kind of has a 'neat' factor and you can do something else with your day in addition to it as you have all the options up and down the coast (Boston, or whale watch anyone? How about a visit to the Woods Hole aquarium?)
