Visiting Kansas City, MO in June. Need travel ideas/coupons/discounts.

trixkid89 sounds like you had a great trip. We are headed to KC in a few weeks as a 2 day stop to Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone.

Where is the free parking? Is it at the Crown Center or Union Station?

Also has anyone been to the Money Musuem? How was that?

Thanks!
Tanya

The Money Museum is worth a stop. It's free and you get a bag of shredded money at end. It's not very big and you don't need a lot of time to see it.

Another vote for eating lunch at Fritz's. So much fun to see the trains deliver the food! The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is a real find also. The building itself is gorgeous.

Lots of great info here....it's been awhile since we've made a trip west...
do any of you locals know of any discounts for the KC Zoo?

Crown Center is free to park on weekends and you can have your parking validated at any business there for the rest of the week. At least that's how it used to be, before the new attractions. . . Don't think it costs to park in Union Station but the only time I went was with a first grade group on a bus & that first grader is now going into high school, LOL!

Hope someone can chime in on the Money Museum, never heard of it!

I was hoping someone would say that about the Money Museum. I have it on the list of things to do and hope we are able to get there.

I have Fritz's on the list as well. Looks like a cheap and fun place to eat.

Thanks!

How come I've lived here my whole life and have never heard of the Money Museum? Going to have to look into it.

Fritz's (I've only been to the one at Crown Center) is a fun little place to eat. It is PACKED during normail lunch/dinner times, so definitely try to eat earlier or later. My DS has life threatening food allergies and doesn't eat any food from restaurants. He LOVES going to Fritz's, just to watch the trains bring everyone else's food. It's his favorite restaurant, and he doesn't even eat.

Just wanted to say that last year we walked from Crown Center to the Money Museum, it was not bad at all, about a 15 minute walk. We parked at Crown Center, took the kids to kaleidoscope (where they validated our parking so if was free). Then we walked to the Money Museum, where the kids though it was very cool to see tons of money and get their own bag to take home :thumbsup2

We are going to Kansas City in 2 weeks and I just wanted to say thank you to all who posted. Can't wait to try some of the suggested places.

Ah how cute! It must be a cool place to eat/visit if DS enjoys going there.

It's funny how you learn something new every day. The Money Museum is at the Federal Reserve Bank Of Kansas City. There is also one in Denver CO.

Thanks! It's good to know you can walk there. I was looking at the map of the two places and didn't know how the walk would be. After a long drive a walk would be good.

Adventure Oasis Water Park in Independence looks like a pretty nice water park and you can't beat the price at all

Just an fyi regarding WOF/OOF and food. I saw people bringing in rolling back pack coolers to both parks this weekend. One person had their kid in one of those fold up wagon things (I think they are supposed to be used for groceries???) with a huge soft sided cooler in it. They walked straight through the line (this was OOF) and no one said a word.

We are in KC now and just tried to buy tickets to legoland for tomorrow and it is sold out for tomorrow. Does anyone know what the chances are of getting there early and buying tickets at the window?

When we couldn't get tickets for our upcoming trip, I called and the representative told me that they were completely sold out until July 10th due to the All Star game being held there. She added that there were "plenty of walk up tickets." She said that they open at 10:00, but that people start lining up around 9:30 to get those tickets. She said that they have only been open since April so they don't have a lot of history to go by, but the wait line typically dies down around 2:00 or 2:30 for the walk up tickets. (Although one day recently it didn't die down until 4:00.) She said the combination tickets with Sea Life are the same price as online and that you can get the combination ticket and go into Sea Life first if the wait is lower there. However, you do have to wait in the Lego walk up line after that even though you'll already have your Lego ticket. (With the online combination tickets, it said you had to use the Lego one first, and they'd give you the Sea Life one to use after that.) We haven't done it yet, so I don't have first hand knowledge. I'm just going by what the phone representative told me. Hope that helps you. Please let us know your experience!

ETA: The representative also said that you can't just wait in line early to get tickets for a specific time. Your party would need to be with you as you will enter Lego as soon as you get through the line.
