Visiting HHI First Time-What should I see?

I am visiting HHI for the first time first weekend over till Nov. 11th. I am not staying at Disney's resort, but will visit for my first time as well as the island itself. What should I be sure to see? I hope I love the Disney resort because I'm putting off my 2010 vacation till I see it!! Also, what restaraunt should I absolutely go to? Not much time there, but thought I would take the trolley ride around the island. Do I have to be staying at Disney's resort to take some of the island walking tours? Thanks for any help, I am really excited! I hope I love it!

I hate to throw a damper on your enthusiasm, but when I think of HHI, I don't exactly think of it as a siteseeing destination. In fact, I didn't even realize they have a trolley tour. Most of the beach access is behind gated communities, except for several public accesses. You can ride down to Harbour Town (after you pay your $5 admission fee) and look at the lighthouse. You can pull into Shelter Cover and look at the expensive boats. And you can ride around and look at the expensive houses from a distance. But that's about it. HHI is more about relaxing and enjoying the beach and the resort. As far as restaurants. If I had to recommend one single place to eat that reflects HHI - I'd recommend Old Oyster Factory.

Well, the trolley is supposed to take you around the island, the shopping outlets. Isn't there any public access to the beaches? Can't you ride bikes, but to where?
