Visiting friends/family, what do you call it?

Growing up, my parents would call it "loafering". We'd go see people I didn't know (friends/family of my parents). Usually we'd do this on lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoons. I've heard some people call it just plain ole visiting. What do you call it? If I said I'd be loafering around, how many of you would think I was talking about bread?;)

I know what loafing means, but I'd never use the word. I'd think you were at your own house watching TV in your pajamas if that's what you said you were doing. :)

We call visiting people "going to so-and-so's house" most of the time. We don't have any family really close, and we haven't lived here long enough to have long time friends, so most of the time when we go to someone's house, it's because they invited us and plan to do at least a moderate amount of entertaining.

I'd call it torture. Going over to some strange person's home and having to act interested. I just remember when I was younger, I would pray that this person would have children the same age as me. That way I could play a bit, but more often than not, I'd be visiting an elderly person. Nice, but so bored looking at old photos. :)

Browneyes, I am real southern, but I haven' heard that expression. We would just go visiting.

Cotye - that's so funny - sounds like me and my brother
when we were young! :p

Misery???

Sheer Hell?

Just a couple of words that come to mind. :teeth:

This only applies to certain members of my family, when they come "loafering" over to my house. They have a habit of never leaving.

Thanks for the great big laugh, Snoopy! :jester: Although, I'm sure it's not too funny to you when they visit. Glad it's you & not me!!! :p

Boredom?

LOL Normally now we only visit my mom's best friend and her husband. Melissa is like my big sister so it isn't torture anymore. :) I love visiting them, in fact, but we do a lot of things together, not just visiting their condo.

We are gonna go visit so and so, or we are going on vacation to see so and so (my mom says that to try and make it sound fun) LOL

I call it a darn good excuse to pound the Big Q. . ;)

:teeth:

Memories. Growing up, we spent all Sunday morning in church. Then we'd visit both sets of grandparents and sit there with nothing to do. Then we'd get lunch at home around 1:30 p.m. Every Sunday without fail, same boring routine. Mom was church organist and we had to be there. Tired and hungry and bored. Did I mention we'd have to stay up late to have our hair curled. I'm so glad those days are gone.
