Visiting friends at their resort and vice versa?

My friends are going to be in Orlando the same time as us and we were discussing how we would visit each other.

They are staying at Blue Heron and we will be at Bonnet Creek.

Can either party just drive on to site and go straight to that persons room or would we need some type of pass?

Is Blue Heron gated like BC?
