We'll be staying at POR in November. We would really like to see some of the other resorts since they are all so different in style. We don't want to use the pool or anything like that. I was thinking more along the lines of having dinner there at the resort and then taking a walk around the resort to see what it looks like.

Which resorts are fun/interesting to visit?

I read about lots of people visiting Animal Kingdom Lodge for the great restaurants and then they can walk around and experience the animal viewing areas.

The Boardwalk area is fun with a lot of neat restaurants.

People like to have dinner at 'Ohana at the Polynesian and then explore the beach.

Resorts to visit (in order of our preference, and we LOVE resort-hopping):

Poly - watch the torch-lighting ceremony, have dinner at 'Ohana, walk on beach, and watch Electrical Water Pageant from the dock.

CR - The view from the Concourse of the monorail gliding overhead is great, especially if you're a Monorail lover. Concourse has great shops, bar, and we like Chef Mickey's for dinner, especially fun for a first night's dinner. Can also get spectacular view of MK from California Grill.

AKL - walk around the lobby, the animal observation areas, the grounds, dinner at Boma if you're adventurous (on ribs night).

YC/BC - Boardwalk is a great area to visit for an evening stroll and so many places to get dinner. Also very easily accessible from Epcot if you want to take a break from World Showcase.

WL - breathtaking lobby. geiser. never ate there

Happy hopping! :sunny:

Let me add the Grand Floridian to the list. We always have dinner at 1900 Park Fare for the first night of our trip. The buffet offers many interesting choices - last trip there was a 'to-die-for' salmon dish, not to mention their chilled strawberry soup - including more standard fare for the kids. Plus it's lovely to sit in their exquisite lobby listening to music while you wait for your table. During the holidays, it's just breathtaking with the decorations including a lifesize gingerbread house! Don't miss it.

I discovered resort hopping on my last trip and LOVED it! We went to Ohana's at the Poly and really enjoyed getting to see the resort and the EWP. Plus, we LOVED Ohana's! We also hit the Grand Floridian and ate at 1900 Park Fare. DH wants to go back to Ohana's on our next trip, so we'll probably try that, and I would really like to see AKL, so Boma's in definitely on the list of possibilities. Since AK closes early, AKL is a good option for dinner and viewing before going back to the hotel. We enjoy Boardwalk, too.

The one downside to doing this is getting from resort to resort if you don't have a car. It took us 45 minutes to get from the Dolphin to the Poly! We called a cab to take us back. The night we ate at 1900 Park Fare, the Grand Floridian staff was gracious enough to take us back to the Dolphin in their resort vehicles!

I would love to do this, too when we go in January. Is it OK to park our car at the different resorts even though we are not staying there? I mean, they won't tow our car or anything, will they?

We are going to tour the resorts one night to see all the Christmas Decorations. I can't wait!! The boys and I will be waiting for DH to take lots of pics.
