Visiting Colorado Altitude Sickness should I be concerned?

I can't imaging that just wandering around would really affect anyone
Oh but it does for some folks especially if there's a large difference in altitude. You can't escape the altitude, which is around you as you are just wandering about, you just have to hope your body adjusts which it doesn't always happen. You don't have to be doing any strenuous activities for altitude to affect you. I wasn't skiing at all and I was hit the hardest. Just my body didn't like it.

I think hydration is key
I think hydration is what you should do regardless but for some people no matter how much water you drink your body just doesn't handle it well.

I've been to Denver/ Colorado Springs several times and it never even hit my radar to worry about it.

Thank you everyone for your comments..I am still torn on what to do.. I am only going for 7 days and honestly I dont want to risk being sick.. Having a headache is miserable and I plan to do a lot of driving.. If either me or my friend have a bad headache we wont be able to drive to make it to the next spot.. i was planning on arriving nov 22 and being in the boulder/denver area till the 24 when i drive to Telluride.. one night there (25th) then off to Breckenridge (26th) then towards Estes Park 27 and 28 and finally leave the 29th.. so there is a lot of driving and moving around.. being sick even one day would be a challenge..

My wife suffered on a ski trip to Brian Head Utah. The hotel is at 9800 feet. She had an awful headache and couldn’t sleep at all. It was a long week.

I can't imaging that just wandering around would really affect anyone but I also don't really drink and didn't have any alcohol at all during that vacation.

Yes, I was sitting at my computer checking some details on our trip when our friends showed up. They must have gotten off the plane about an hour before. :scratchin One of them was just standing there talking to me for about 10 minutes, and he suddenly mentioned how woozy and out of breath he was feeling. His ears might have been ringing too. Then he asked, doesn't the altitude affect me? That was the first I thought about the altitude. But, as I said, some of us drove up. So maybe, we slowly got acclimated. Another friend, who also flew in, later, said he was also woozy. :headache:

I’ve had altitude sickness. In addition to all the symptoms that everyone mentioned, I was also chilled to the bone. Couldn’t warm up at all. I was only at 7200 ft, which is fairly low. I ski and have never had a problem so I don’t know why it affected me one time and not the countless other times I’ve been above 10k feet.
