I've now booked our third trip for my boyfriend and I to visit orlando. We are staying for the last week of August and first week of Sept 03. We have been twice before but in October (the last time being 2001). I am expecting it to be a lot hotter/wetter(?) and a lot busier - has anybody else been at this time - any tips? We don't have children so can miss out all the kiddy stuff.

Hi Julia

Welcome

I have been to WDW twice in late August and have booked again for next year - same time. The weather is hot (very hot) it can reach high 90's low 100's, but we love it. You get some afternoon showers - although (touch wood) we've been lucky that it was only odd days. Last year it rained hard for about an hour later afternoon and for a couple of hours another day.

From the last two weeks of August onwards the parks are actually a bit less busy as the US school children go back to school following Summer break. The weekends are still quite busy, but a bit of careful planning will help make the most of your trip

Thanks Maxine

It's comforting to know that I won't be facing too many crowds, or getting too wet!

Cheers

Hi Julia

We went these two weeks in 2001 - busier the first week especially the weekend of Labor Day - the Saturday and Sunday was mad in WDW - because Spectromagic was only on these two days during our stay. After Labor Day, it was really quiet. The first week - we had five completely dry days - but we did get a few downpours after that - not for the whole day though - but it didn't spoil anything.

Have a fab time - we're going a bit earlier next year - it will be busier I expect, but hey, who cares.

we went in early august, and i wouldnt say it was Hot hot i guess it depends on what you call hot, humidity was high ,but not unbearable!.

Rain, boy does it rain, were not talking an odd afternoon shower here, were talking torrential down pours lasting most of the day!, something of which we went expecting, as others had said just odd showers. It might be differant being the end of august im not sure.

We have just come back from our 8th trip and the weather was too hot for us really, we have a young son who is 5 though so it was more difficult because of that really.
When it wasn't too hot it was usually pouring with rain, not just showers sometimes it lasted for hours, they have had a lot of rain over there this year.

As for the crowds generally very busy, although we did notice that it was a lot less so after the Labour Day weekend, all the americans went home and all the Brits went home also, kids going back to school I reckon.

We personally would not go again this time of year, much better early May/October.

Cheers

I've been twice at the end of August and have just booked for next August. Crowd wise I would say they are quite small but I can only compare to Easter which is extremely busy. The heat has been bearable just take several breaks and drink plenty. The rain has differed, August 2001 we hardly saw any but this August we had quite a lot of rain which lasted several hours at a time. I have to go in school holidays so August suits me best. If I had the choice I would go some other time.

We've been twice in August because we have to go in the school holidays and the parks are noticeably quieter in the last two weeks of August as a lot of US schools have gone back (and Scottish schools). The weather was hot but not unbearable but the humidity is high and you have to remember to drink plenty of water. Some days we only had short thunderstorms but others it was like something out of the movies, lightening, thunder and torrents of water! but if I'd wanted dry and no humidity I'd have gone to the Med.
We're also going next August and really looking forward to it.

We've been in August as well. It is hot and humid and can be busy. From our experience we found our wettest months to be September and June, but you know FL - it rains most days in the summer. Best weather we have ever had there was January/Feb with temps in the 80s but a dry heat and very little if no rain at all. Also the lines are much less. It kind of puts you off going again in the height of the summer. I would be tempted to do July for the sake of the 4th, but regardless be prepared to be baked and queue, there is no getting round it.

we stayed at okw the last three weeks in Aug this year. The weather was not a problem and in the last two weeks there was a lot less people in the parks

However Di$ney really cut back on park opening hours. MK closed at 6pm with less oppurtuinity to view the fireworks.

The largest group of parkgoers appeared to be British - there were a lot of premier league football tops!!
