This year? That is an easy one. August hands down.

June 20-22 will be extremely crowded just like June 2009 because of AP holders. June 18, 19 and 23 will probably still be busy but not so much. By August all SoCal APs will be blocked and some of the hoopla over World of Color will have died down a little. The two weeks in August will be pretty much equal. Go whichever suits you best.

We are actually going first week in August. At the Candy Cane Inn, the rates were lower at that time too, so that is an added bonus. I also figure it gives WOC time to work out all the kinks. And I'll have time to formulate a plan based on everyone else's experiences. We've been in June and we won't go at that time again. We prefer July or Aug.

You can see Hydroguy's link, but it does get hot. I have seen the car thermometer over 100. As long as you are prepared for the heat, you will be fine.

Thanks HydroGuy! It seems that you are the "robo" of the DLR boards. Your info is so very helpful My DD (14) and I are planning a spur of the moment trip to DLR sometime this summer--do you think anytime during July or August during AP blackouts would be a good time to go? Thanks

I seem to remember August as "smog days" or "hot wind, extreme fire danger days" when I lived in Anaheim in the late 80's.

Are these blackout dates generally the same each year. We are planning on going to DL in start of August of 2011 for DS's 5th.
Does DL have a value season ever, I'm guessing August is not it but but if anyone knows what August is considered as far as rates goes can you please let us know.

I do not know what term would be used but it "is a very, very busy time and the rates are usually at their highest(except for the advertised specials.)

Last I checked Robo had over 30,000 posts. At my rate of about 1000 posts per year it will take another 24 years for me to get to where Robo is now - at which point I am sure he will be closing in on a million!

Another big difference is that Robo is very funny while I am more average in that department. However, lots of pople liked my April Fool's thread in 2008. My one this year wasn't too bad either.

August before Aug 22 when the blockouts lift will be fine. Some people are concerned this year about the All-Star game in Anaheim on July 13 and extra crowds around then. I would go after July 18 and before August 22. Hey, I am going then! (Last week of July).

They have been but that is starting to change a little. In previous years the blockouts started more aburuptly in late June. However, after the experience in 2009 DLR decided to stagger the June blockouts a little more this year. The summer blockout does not begin for good until July 3. In the past they have always lasted until late August and I expect that to continue. Early August should be fine for blockouts. As for heat and hotel rates, well, it is what it is.

It definitely varies! We have been in mid-June and late September and the temps have been in the mid 90s. Our August visit was actually the best weather we've had - middle 70s!

If you do get 90s, it's still tolerable if you start in the early morning, break during the hottest part of the day and then head back in the evening when it cools off a bit. I also much prefer DCA in the heat - it's much more airy and more of the lines seem to be in the shade. (Plus many indoor attractions for a break from the heat!)
