Ok, maybe I am just freaking myself out here so I thought I would post and see if anyone else has delt with this.

I am almost 23 weeks pg. I have not had any problems with the pg so far as far as high bp or anything like. I did not have any problems with my first pg either.

However, last night I had a spell of about 30 minutes where these streaks of lights were flashing in my eyes and would not stop. It was hard to see and focus on anything. After about 30 mins it stopped.

Well then today a couple of hours ago I had this happen again. Same thing, lights flashing, can't see well, just a strange feeling. Lasted about 30 mins then stopped.

SO I ask some people about it and they seemed really concerned saying I should go be seen. So i call the Labor and delivery floor at the hospital since my dr is closed for the night and they said as long as I have not had any problems with high bp that it should not be of immediate concern but to call my dr to be seen first thing tomorrow morning. Well now I am all paranoid about it. I keep reading and i have read things that describe it exactly and it says to call the dr immediately and that it could be detatched retina which would/could be caused by pre-ecclampsia (sp?) or gestational diabeties which I have been paranoid about getting anyways but have not had the test yet. (it is set to be done on my next appt.)

So anyways, sorry to drag on, just looking for some other advice and it anyone has had this happen to them and what it was? Thanks so much!

When was your BP last checked? I'd at least make sure you aren't having problems. Does your Dr have an emergency number? Most OBs do, I'd call. Seems like anything effecting vision shouldn't wait.

I had that a little with DS, but it didn't bother me enough to even mention it to my midwife. Have you been on the computer a lot or outside in the bright sun?

At an apppt. with my eye Dr. after I had DD my eyes had gotten worse. He said that it is common with pregnancy.

I agree call NOW! This happened to me in my first pregnancy when my blood pressure was 180/150!!!! I had pregnancy induced hypertension and had to be induced IMMEDIATELY. My signs were flashing lights through my eyes and blurred vision...this is a hallmark sign. Not trying to scare you but call NOW

It happened to me too and I was fine. But still call your Dr.

I can't believe it! That happened to me during pregnancy also, for the first time in my life. I was freaking out.

The doctor doubled my iron prescription - something to do with that I guess - or so he thought.

Later in life I started experiencing it again - now it's diagnosed as migraine without headache. Nothing to do but let it pass when it happens.

Definitely get it checked out - hopefully it's nothing serious. :)

Hmmm..I was very anemic with DS.

Thank you for the info!

I did find something on ocular migrains and it seems like that is what it is from reading it so I am hoping that is all it is now.

interesting about the iron. I do not take any at all b/c it makes me too sick so I am sure my iron is prob. low.

I will still call the dr first thing in the morning. The nurse at L&D was not too concerned so hopefully it is nothing big.

I took/take an all natural liquid iron called Floradix (iron+herbs). I have taken it with both pregnancies and continue to take it since having DS.

We have a natural food store here that sells it, but I have been buying online at The Vitamin Shoppe It is $10 cheaper than at my store and I order enough to get free shipping. :)
