My eyes are slow to adjust to light changes. Last trip, I had a really hard time when coming from outdoors/daylight into a dimly lit queue - 7DMT and POTC are specific examples. I travel solo, so don't have a companion to follow.

Anyone have some tips on how to handle this? Could I bring a small flashlight just to get through the line and find my "boarding spot" without running into a post or stepping on a child? (It would be turned off and in my bag before boarding.) Other ideas? Thanks for any advice.

Good topic!! I have a problem with this too some suggestions would be great.

Try darker sunglasses for the outdoors - as dark as you can handle. Take them off when you go inside, close your eyes for a few seconds (2-3), then open them. Any time that it is too dark, close yours eyes - it should reset your pupils.

You can use a flashlight in the queue, but not during the pre-show in the stretching room at haunted mansion.

I don't have a good answer, but when I got out of the stretching room and 100 people funnel down into single file, I couldn't see. I stood off to the side by the wall and waited maybe 30 secs for the crowd to go by. Less people to step on and time for eyes to adjust.

I would bring a flash light and turn it off for preshow and rides and only use it when needed maybe a flash light that is not that bright

You can try a flashlight but at certain attractions like HM, you will probably be asked to turn it off by the CMs. :(

You could download a flashlight app for your phone.

That way you wouldn't have to carry a separate flashlight.

I often travel solo and have similar issues. My night vision is very poor and going from light to dark is especially bad. I try to make sure I have a railing to hold or a wall next to me. Very often I let others pass so I am less likely to trip or fall into someone. Going really slowly helps me.

Most phone ( or at lest iPhons ) come with a flash light. Also I find if I follow a guest into the ride I am less likely to fall or run into things. For POTCB I walk with my hand out for SM I ask to use the FP line 7DMT I normily have to wait long enough just inside that my eyes can adjust but I do use my flash light some times especially for POTCB.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Yes, I have a flashlight on my iPhone, which I really like. I wish it was a little quicker/easier to switch on and off, but that's where my thoughts are. I really appreciate all the feedback!

Something to take into consideration when using your phone as a flashlight is it another "thing" you are using your phone for that makes your battery last even less time. We aren't apple product fans. DH has an apple phone for work because that is what the company uses but we much prefer Android products. I think the flashlight on his work phone is obnoxiously bright. My android came with the flashlight as a basic staple. DH's personal phone did not. He chose a very nice Samsung, I chose a very high end one. We have found in our experience our Samsungs charge faster than his work IPhone.
If it were me and I thought I was going to need to use a flashlight very much, I would probably take a little travel sized flashlight with me and save my phone battery... but that's just me.

I have this problem and fortunately my family tries to help me out. Lines that are bad for me, that I remember right now, are in MK: Splash Mountain, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Haunted Mansion, Pirates and Space Mountain. In EP: The Seas with Nemo and Friends and Ellen's World of Energy. In Hollywood Studios: Tower of Terror and Voyage of the Little Mermaid. In AK: Bug's Life. and Festival of the Lion King.

Someone in my family walks ahead of me and allows me to hold on to their shoulder. They warn me if there is a step of something obvious to them.

It use to be that with a GAC there were ways around some of the long lines like going into the Living Sea but with the DAS it takes so much explaining that I have given up.

I carry a flashlight but I use it mostly for reading menus.

Prior to our most recent trip (earlier this month) we purchased 2 Fuel Rods from the Fuel Rod website (got them for $5 each less than in the parks). Fuel Rods are small battery packs that are rechargeable - but at each park, and Disney Springs, they have a machine where you can trade in your depleted Fuel Rods for a pre-charged one, so you can just keep on charging your device(s)!

Fuel Rods are now showing up around the country in different airports, too. We liked the fact that the kit we bought had the little charging cables and adapters that meant we could keep all kinds of devices going - both iPhones and Android devices. And knowing that we could swap them out for charged units at any time was great - one less thing to worry about! :)

I have a red light on my flashlight and I find it very effective. I also have vision issues in dim light. I have not used a flashlight for lines at Disney but would be much more comfortable with the red light than with a standard flashlight as it would impact less on others.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Pirates of the Caribbean are the two that stand out to me as lines that I've had trouble with regarding vision.

One thing I do ( at home I have not tried this a Disney ) when I do not want the bright light of the flashlight ( so early morning bathroom trips when I do not want to wake others or my self ) is I cup my hands around the end where the light comes out ( single bulb work small flashlight work best for this) I have a bigger flash light that I hold (not too tight ) aguenst my shirt. If you do it right the light that comes out can be amended where you need it like right in front of you and it really is not that bright Also I have a phone charger that has a light on it. ( my battiery work fine at home Disney and I know there are things I can do to make it last longer but it dies fast ) And make sure your light dose not get hot at all

Yes, I know all about fuel rods. We could use one for DH's phone but mine comes with a special rapid charger that will charge the batteryfrom empty to fully charged in under an hour but it is recommended that you use this charger and only use a wall outlet. They recommend avoiding chargers even.

We used to carry a small flashlight for my son, now he just uses the flightlight on his phone. And we tend to stop when we enter the lines and just wait a minute for his eyes to adjust.
